hey Matthew
I have followed Zidane and his career for the past 8 yrs since seeing his performance in WC 1998. It is quite unimaginable that we will never again see him grace the pitch. I think it will take a while for that to sink in. Many others I have enjoyed, Figo, Ronaldo, Del Piero will probably not either, but none will I miss like ZZ. He has had unsavoury moments throughout his career, but show me someone that hasn't if you look hard enough. He just brought something to the game for me that I cannot really explain and his style and grace, the ease at which he took on opponents at times, is something I do not think I will see for a long time to come. We as fans never want to see the end of the careers of our favourites and hero's but I guess only they know when their bodies and hearts say it is time to stop. I wish him luck and peace in his life outside of football. I will surely miss him. Hard to think that the next WC will be the same without all our retiring legends.

I do not watch soccer, I do not care for the game, when I play it I always end up hurting myself
But I can respect Zidane after freaking out. Sometimes you just snap out there (in all sports)
In fact, I can now say that Zidane is my favorite soccer player. Yes, for all the wrong reasons, but it has opened my eyes

I do. Zidane has become a legend during his lifetime. He is a talented soccer player. And all talented ppl as you know a lil bit weired too. Probably he could have deal with that Italiam worm later after the game. Personally I wouldn't care for any foul mouthed moron. But he chose another way. Nevertheless, he remains the brightest star in soccer today.

I love Zidane for his coolness on the field(while playing football!) and his evenness. Also because he proved all those idiots wrong who said he was past his prime and shouldn't be on the team.
He probably wont play anywhere since he has categorically stated that previously.

Zidane was the man. I mean, the way he flirted with Dagger and made fun of Steiner, classy!
What? We're not talking about the Final Fantasy character?

I do, too. He's the best player of the last generation, and will be remembered just like Pele, Beckenbauer, Cruyff and Maradona are: as one of the GREATS.
Sadly, he won't play again. France will miss him, although I hope they can get a playmaker to take his place, perhaps Ribery or even Malouda. I doubt they can get someone like him, though.
