I thought they did a great job with the special effects, but yeah all in all it was too much. I also think the story line was more complicated than in the first movie.

Just like the gold in the first movie, it's called a curse. A supernatural hindrance, in this case, influenced by the association with the seas.
The concept of "Davy Jones" as some sort of undersea "Darklord" works relative to the lore surrounding him. The transformation of the undead sailors who have signed on for the 100 year mast is just an extension of that thematic curse.

The characters were a little odd. I guess they were fish-like because they spent most of their time under the sea, so they had to adapt to that, especially since they couldn't port but once every ten years. I am guessing that's what the film creators wanted us to believe. Overall, I enjoyed the movie. The middle movie of a trilogy is always the hardest one to make. It ties the first and last movie together. It continues the story line from the first film, while introducing new characters and plots to take into the 3rd film. I love Pirates of the Caribbean, so I guess nothing they do is really going to make me angry, unless one of the main characters either dies, or stays dead in the last film.

I enjoyed it, too, however - I'm disappointed because they made it a sequel; I mean, you have to now see the third movie. The first movie is a movie all it's own; you don't have to watch it before you watch the second, there's really no lead-off. It's not like Star Wars, where each movie tells a part of the story. The first was a story independantly - and so, I think, the second and third should have been, too. And where the hell did Barbosa come from?!

I loved it. It is a Disney movie. Johnny Depp was soooooo funny and the guy who played Davy Jones was great.
I think they were on the same concept as the story lines ran together.
It was meant to be a lot of silliness.

The movie was a sequel. It tried very hard to be a sequel. It wasn't anything more or less. Everything was bigger, badder, shinier and flashier. I don't get why you'd get down on a fantasy movie for being too outlandish. It lived up to my expectations. Not better and not worse.

I really loved it... and I can't wait for the third one... It's telling a different story while keeping in touch with the first one.
