yes. i had a stillborn at 21 weeks and had post partum depression. post partum depression has to do with your hormone levels dipping after your pregnancy ends (abruptly of course...well, any pregnancy ends abruptly, weather from a stillbirth, miscarriage, abortion, or a live birth). your levels dip down, and that's how you get post aprtum depression. now depending when you aborted, it might be a mild version. for example, if you aborted at 7 through 10 weeks, your levels were high, but not as high as someone who'se been pregnant for 8 or 9 months; therefore, u might have P P depression, but a mild form. if you aborted much later, u might have higher symptoms of it.

Yes, It is. I am not sure if it is called postpartum depresion, but you can be very sad from this. You have lost a child. It does not matter if you actually had a child or not, you had one in your body. if
you are filling depressed for this you should talk to person who is qualified in this field. Call the Clinic in your area to see were you can go for help with this. Good luck and My prayers are with you. God Bless and keep you safe in his arms. I do believe if you have an abortion God gives your baby a chance to have a life with some other family to love and protect them.

absolutely.
not only would you consider this postpartum depression, but depression in general about the abortion. alot of women go through abortions and then feel guilt, depression, or other negative feelings because having an abortion isnt an easy decision. plus, you are terminating a pregnancy and basically interrupting a natural hormone cycle, one in which your body is getting ready for baby. abruptly, that cycle is ended and the body has to readjust hormonally. so alot of women report feeling down or blue afterwards, not only because of the gravity of their decision but also because their hormones are messed up.
granted, not all women experience this, alot of women are at peace with their decision, and take it in stride and dont experience any depression. there may be a few days of feeling down because of hormones but then they rebound back. it can go either way.

I'm sorry that your friend is having a hard time. It is totally normal to have strong feelings after having an abortion, or having to make any other "life choice" -- like getting married, or moving. There is an after-abortion hotline called Exhale on the west coast that does not align itself with either pro-choice or anti-choice. The number is 1-866-4-EXHALE. She might want to call it.
I'm glad she has a friend like you to help her through this. You are awesome!

I don't think that it is postpartum depression I think it is just depression from the loss of the baby and the decision that you made
I had one 9 years ago and it is very hard at first but over time the pain eases it doesn't go away but it gets better just hang on and know that you did this for a good reason.

Post pardom depression occurs when their is a change in hormones... and abortion does cause many changes in your body, so i would think that it could cause postpardom- especially if you have had depressive symptoms prior in life.

well, no because you have not brought the pregnancy to full term.
Depression after an abortion though makes good sense, as essentially on some level you have lost a child.

I wouldnt be surprised if you did get it. I think it comes when you have the hormones from pregnancy and then when you give birth(or in your case, have an abortion) you lose the baby that was inside you, but the hormones are still there and going crazy.

Yes. It is because of the sudden cessation of the gestation and that effect on all the hormones.
The #1 hormone - because it can affect the production of all the other hormones - is insulin. Ask your doctor for a fasting insulin blood test . Ask for a copy of your results. 10 or higher is abnormal for an adult.
Your depression could be related to low blood sugar. You may want to check out www.hufa.org, and click on the symptoms link to check yourself out.

Post partum depression is caused by hormonal surges and changes related to delivery. It is therefore possible to experience it after an abortion.
