I've done a couple of things here and there. Right after school ended, I set up my grade book and lesson plan book for September. I also did some reading for my professional development.
My favorite thing so far has been watching TV. I'm usually at work when Oprah's on, so I've been watching that and I've also been watching the 1st season box set of 24. That's an awesome show!

Summer is the time when teachers in traditional schools catch up on life. The school year is so busy that many of us postpone activities until summertime. I read lots of books, some for fun and some to enhance my classroom knowledge. I garden and can and make jelly. This summer I have taken two NEH sponsored Landmarks of History institutes to improve my knowledge of the West and to learn how to use my community as a classroom. Then of course there is the cleaning and painting and stuff like that that I postpone during the school year. Oh yeah--I visit family when I have the chance. So all in all, it has been a great summer, and I will be ready to get back to work in a few weeks to prepare materials on the internet for my students to use next year. Hope you have had a great summer too.

I have four weeks left, but for one week I'll be going out of town to take a class to prepare me to teach AP English. That's my only
"vacation" this summer. I spent the first three weeks this summer painting and cleaning. Since then I've been doing a lot of therapeutic lounging by the pool. Summer goes so fast; I hope I will be rested enough by August 10 to get back to work. That's my summer.

Awesome! I just frolicked in my pool with my tiki torches glowing all around it, then went to the barn to feed my horses and tuck them in for the night! After I get back from visiting my family back east, I'm going to paint my classroom and get everything ready for the new year. I've got my first 6 weeks of lesson plans done and am working on improving my spanish skills. This is the first year I haven't taught summer school, so I've enjoyed the break and feel recharged for the new year!

I had my first child this June so summer wasn't really time off. I'm learning to be a dad. But I've been working at night on reading and answers too. I've made it a policy to not work a second job during the summer but with huge day care expenses rolling in I might be in summer school next year.

I've been attending a lot of summer training that our district offers. I'm a little disappointed that the turn-out at our training has been low. Although you learn very little, it is a way for teachers to be reminded of why we are doing this. I personally think the teacher summer training should be reformed just like our education system. Teachers need sales/management training just like any corporate executive, but that is for another thread.

My summer is almost over as we are a modified year-round. I go back on Aug.2. (tears are beginning to slide down my face). Trying to finish taking care of my parent's estate and selling their house. Son just had emergency appendectomy. It wasn't needed so now have to find out what is really wrong. Have started buying up cheap school supplies. Wal-Mart had crayons for 20 cents. Folders for 10. Bought 150 of them. Swimming in my pool. Have to renew my teaching license so looking into what I want to take.

trying to relax at home, working a little at second job (daycare center). No classes this summer. Starting to think about getting my room ready in a couple of weeks. It goes too fast but try telling that to someone who works all year.

I've been mostly just relaxing and sitting around. I've been reading a lot and crafting a lot. But mostly just enjoying life.
