ok my best friend loves to belt out and sing! I guess she is tone deaf because someone actually convinced her she is really good. she will sing for anyone openly but she SUX and it's bad! I know it's her passion though and I care about her. Is it possible that with singing lessons she could actually be a decent singer. I figure if she can learn range and gain octave's she could be good. Is it possible TO LEARN AND BE GOOD OR you have to be born to do it? (only serious answers from people that know what they are talking about, please!)

I'm taking singing lessons and one of the most important things that I have learned is that it's not that someone has a bad voice or sings horrible, it's that that person doesn't know how to sing, but that doesn't mean she/he doesn't have the voice - She has it! But she doesn't know how to sing, and that needs speacial preparation and training. I assure you that with singing lessons sooner or later she will start singing very nicely, and it all depends if she is really into singing because to learn the tecniques she needs to put her spirit on it, and work out a lot, do abs, etc. I'll give you an example...I hope you know Ashlee Simpson...she sings, some say good and some say bad but the thing is that she has a voice which is not commonly heard. But when the time comes that she has to sing in my opinion she sings great, because she applies the tecnique with her voice and it sounds nice. I hope that you get what i'm saying, but I assure you that it will sound better with singing classes than with non. Maybe you won't see the changes right away, but you have to be patiente because it takes time till the singing muscles start to obey the training. I hope those singing lessons work out (i'm really sure they will) and I wish you good luck.

yes it's possible to train your voice, if it's a hearing/tone deaf problem it will be hard work. Just be honest with your friend and maybe take some lessons together. She needs help with her specific range so she can stay in the range her voice sounds the best. Check the local school for a music teacher who may offer voice lessons..

Years of training could help, but she will never be a good singer if she is tone deaf. I suggest helping her in the following way: Hide a tape recorder in her room and when she starts singing, secretly record her. Later, play it back and get her opinion on it without giving your own. She probably wont recognize her own voice, and it will be a real eye-opener for her when you tell her. Explain to her that singing is good, but she really needs to sing when she is alone. Remember tho, music is in your heart, not your head.

If she feels so passionate about singing then she should be open to every suggestion her friends make. i took a class at my school that helps you out with singing. it helped a lot. Suggest to her to take some singing lessons and that she might become a star. it is possible to become better. one of my friends really sucked but then she had her mom hire her a voice lesson teacher and now shes a lot better.

Don't be mean about it. I have a friend just like that. But I've never said anything to hurt her feelings over it. It's like when I was little, and went to church. You know, there's always someone right beside you who can't carry a tune in a bucket! If she loves doing it so much, don't bring her down. Just be nice and say, hey, how we change the song? Some people can sing certain songs, where other's can't....

It's been my experience that even with lessons most people who can't recognize they cannot sing in the first place become mediocre at best.

Voice tends to be something that comes naturally. Yes, with training, your friend can become very good, but there's always those who just... can't sing.

singing lessons can help, but if you're not good, you're not going to be good. My roommate has been singing the same song for two days and it is driving me mad
