Yes.
When Italy was starting his WC, crowd and columnists were claiming for Lippi dismissal and thinking Buffon and Cannavaro weren't worthy to play in the team.
Many people were so angry with the scandal to join the "I'm supporting Ghana" campaign. (link)
Host Manager Beckenbauer said "Italy will fully paid its scandal in this tournament"
Italy was in its training camp in Duisburg when Buffon must leave the team and went back in Italy to speak with High Sport Court judges.
After the Czech match the first judgment was known, asking for relegation (Juventus ' serie C', Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio 'serie B').
The next match (AUS) the team played at its worst (maybe they was out of focus...) and at 7' second half, when the referee sent off Materazzi (who replaced world class defender Nesta injured) with a wrong red card, Beckenbauer prediction seems true. Not right, it was only a mistake, the second mistake was a doubtful penalty accorded to Italy...
Left AUS match and scandal nightmare, team spirit and willingness finally grows and Ukraine match had a straight win and GER match was one of the best in this WC. To increase pressure on Italians, German press was highly unfair before the semi-final...
"There was outrage in Italian newspapers on Wednesday after German news weekly Der Spiegel published a satirical World Cup-related column on its Web site about the Azzurri entitled `Oiled up and greasy' which referred to Italians as 'parasitical forms of life'.
The article was later withdrawn and an apology posted on the Web site but that didn't stop the daily La Stampa declaring - `Italian parasites - that is how Der Spiegel prepares for the semi-final'."
Finally, the most involved club, Juventus, was the most represented in the final with Buffon, captain Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Camoranesi, Del Piero, Vieira, Thuram, Trezeguet, and former players captain Zidane, Henry, Inzaghi. And this definitively shows as worthy are those player, besides any scandal, pressure, press campaign.
Thanx for the question.

No. Italy was the best team and they deserved to win. Plus, none of the Italian players on the pitch had anything to do with the scandal.

if you are a stupid aussie then you could say that they got referees that went easy in them but in reality you cant, the only link is that you might say the italien players who play for juve, AC, lazio and fiorentina might have wanted to prove someting and played better because of that
