I know that I am not protected against any viruses that are created after today, but some have told me that I will more than likely be Ok for a couple of months. How much of a chance am I taking? I have been thinking of trying a free version like AVG,but I have been pleased with Mcafee so far. Just curious..thanks in advance.

HI
Get rid of it and download AVG Free from download.com. I used to have McAfee, and I'm so much more pleased with AVG. It's doing its job, and you don't have to pay to upgrade

you are taking a pretty big chance. I would go ahead and download the AVG right away. I have used it for a long time, and have had a very good experience with it. It will allow you to make a rescue disk with the free version. Even though you won't get all the perks with the free version (vs the $ version), the program is excellent. Go with AVG. You won't be let down.

If your protection has ended, you are, probably, infected already.

Here is a package that protects me and my neighbor. I haven't been infected in 8 months, and since I put it on his computer, he hasn't been infected in 6 months. He likes to download porn and it still protects him. Best of all everything is Free and work as good and better than pay packages.

Download the latest Java Update 7. Then remove any older versions from your computer.

Go here and download the following programs: All will be in the first 3 red boxes.

Firewall. - If you have XP with SP2 then use the existing Windows firewall. It is excellent. If not then download Zone Alarm free version.

Anti-Virus program - If you have one then use it or replace it with one of these: AVG 7.1 or AVAST

Anti-Spy programs: Use more than one. None can catch all the garbage out there: Windows Defender Beta 2, Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware SE Personal.

This program will work with the AV and AS programs and add an additional layer of protection and it really works great.

This program will alert you to bad sites:

These are my recommendation based on what protects me and my neighbor

If there's a new threat that you're Anti-virus doesn't detect, your PC will be in troubles. Try to install a new version ASAP. I advice, if you don't have the Mc Afee New Version, to go to Panda and download the trial which is for a month. You will have a whole month to rethink of what anti virus you'll install for the next 365 days. Panda is slow to charge but it protects your PC very well. Don't forget to subscribe for updating during 30 days. You can install and uninstall your favourite software whenever you want.

With all the viruses floating around, I wouldn't want to be without protection for one minute! I guess it depends on what you do on the computer. If you are downloading anything, then you have to have some type of protection. If you don't have virus protection, be real careful when opening emails and especially when opening any kind of attachment.

Well where as i know... mccafee is 0.5% better than Avg, but security are almost same...... very common error i found in all Av's are not all av detect the all viruses.... mccafee didn't detected Trojan in my computer .... not Did avast! avg did..... and mine made trojan..... avast! detected, avg didn't Mccafee found suspicious.... in another test... mccafee detected... other's didn't...

- - > so you May try any of these... all are good doesn't means paid only are better.......

- > Mccafee
- > Avg
- > Avast (pro version is mind blowing)
- > TrendMicro (probably Best Av... even than Norton)
- > Norton (super..... but slows down pc more than 60%)

Just deinstall McAffee and install something like AVG. Won't cost you anything and works just as well. There's no excuse for unprotected surfing! Do it right away.
