thanks. I also wanted to know if there's any place that will exchange PC RAM for laptop RAM of the same value (I have a 128 MB and a 512 MB chip) if there isn't, what is a pretty cheap price for a good quality RAM.

O and do u guys have any suggestions 4 a cheap (I buy a lot of stuff, so I don't save up much $) laptop that will still work 4 the stuff that a 13 year old guy would do, like download music, use IM's, and other stuff? They should be around or under $500. Thanks in advance 4 all ur answers.

no - never

As far as cheap equipment goes - look on for something used - maybe two years old. I could rattle off memory, hard drive, etc minimums, but for what you want to accomplish - stay within the range of 2-3 year old models. For instance - here is one:

It would do what you wanted for $350.

Short answer is no. Its the same logically but the physical connections are different. The same goes for hard drives, floppy drives, CD-ROMS, video etc. All internal devices are physically different due to both physical and power constraints. External connections like USB ports, headphone jacks are the same however. Laptop memory is physically about 1/2 the size of desktop memory modules.

RAM the fits your PC WILL NOT fit your laptop. You can buy cost effective RAM for your laptop from most stores that sell computer equipment like Office Max.
