Definitely society and capitalists business regulate what people should look like. From magazines that advertise make up , clothes, new gadgets, fashion trends, hair trends etc down to explosive advertising on everything one can think of.

Everything is a competition these days. And people are convinced via TV adds, Internet, and all those models and actresses or actors who show up with almost perfection at times, perfection of cosmetic surgeries and thousands of dollars spent on everything they can find to look perfect an then appear in public or magazines that get air brushed so it all looks like women are goddesses and men are some sort of god too.

Everything in society today, unless you live up in Pagosa Springs in Colorado , a town hidden away up in the mountains where i was lived at and was 2.5hrs close to one shopping center, the rest of the country is just a fashion trend after another pushed by models, actors, society in business and capitalists who will make millions and billions selling the stuff to dress America!

I think striving for perfection is an important part of human ambition.

As for the looks part, I think you should examine yourself, not society. I'm not obsessed with looks (I do however take pleasure in beautiful things.), and I'm not alone. Isn't it more likely that you are obsessed with looks and you are projecting it on everyone?

The bottom line is people that have confidence and self-esteem don't care, people that don't, do.

i think ppl wouldn't be as obsessed w/ their looks if the ppl around them didn't care at all about looks and perfection. But also, ppl see perfection in different ways and not all ppl are the same. some people don't look for perfection at all or don't really think about it that much. hope this helped

No...I think we fall into that pressure of being as perfect as society wants us to be. People should be as perfect as they want to be. We don't value the important opinions, like friends and family. I think they know better.

We will always be obsessed with the way we look.
It is human nature to strive for perfection - either for self-satisafaction, to feel accepted, or to seek the approval of our peers.

We would still care about what we looked like, but that attention to detail wouldn't reach the ridiculous extents to which we pursue perfection now.

no proboly not, when you really think about it, doesn't it seem kind of stupid to be obssesed with looking perfect, then having to do it all over again the next day, and on and on and on...

yes. the key though is to realize that perfection is impossible and those that try to ascend to it are idiots.
