Several years ago I tried to join. I went through their spiel at the office, told how much, what food was available, and then given the health form to fill out. When they saw I was on lithium, they didn't want me to join and talked me out of it. I found out later that since lithium can cause weight gain, they don't want people on meds like that because it ruins their success rate.
For the money you have to spend on food, you would be better going to Weight Watchers and learning their program. They have products available at the meeting center or in the stores, but mainly you are taught to eat wisely the foods you normally consume at home or in restaurants. The meetings don't cost much per week and they have programs like "Winter Pass" or "Summer Pass" where you pay for a certain amount of visits at one time, but it's at a reduced rate. You can call their toll-free number to see if they're having a free registration now or maybe in the near future.
Regardless of what program you're on, you have to exercise. I found that out the hard way. But, as the pounds drop off, the exercise becomes easier and even fun.
Good luck.
