It seems to me that trying to stop or even slow down Hezbollah from the air by attacking airports, roads, bridges and towns is clumsy, ineffective, cack-handed and politically suicidal. So what are they REALLY up to?

"eathairymice" - I can't even read your answer. Please use English and punctuation if you hope to be taken seriously. And please read the question. I am not protesting Lebanon's innocence I am merely questioning Israel's strategy.

Israel's war against Hezbollah has been going on since 1982 when Iran founded the group, and they have been very active, forming their own militia. Hezbollah and all the Moslem extremists groups have been saying that they will drive Israel into the sea.

Lebanon’s government is too weak to stop them. It is the same problem that we now see in Iraq with the Moslem militias. Both groups are strong enough that they could take on and seriously damage the government. In Iraq Sadam controlled them very firmly. The violence we see now is nothing new it was just suppressed by Sadam. The situation is the same in Lebanon with Hezbollah. Hezbollah is sponsored by Iran, and Syria so they have deep pockets. In the 1980s Israel was being attacked by Hezbollah, they finally had enough so they invaded Lebanon to get rid of the terrorists, and had as much success as the US is having in Iraq. Finally the UN decided to call in Peacekeepers. The idea was to separate the two warring parties and then try to negotiate some sort of peace deal. So a lot of US Marines were sent in. Hezbollah’s response was to use a truck bomb on their barracks and kill most of them; they didn’t want peace. The US had never felt a terrorist response like this before. They pulled out and proved to Hezbollah that terrorism works. The result turned the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, into a war zone with bombed out buildings and constant fighting for several years. The Lebanonise Christian militias got involved as well and the whole mess got out of hand. Since Hezbollah couldn’t reach the US they started airplane hijacking. That caught our attention. At one point Hezbollah held two planes, their crew and passengers for almost a week. They were trying to get Israel to release some of its Moslem extremists prisoners: Hezbollah, Hamas, and Palanestinans. These groups are all working together. The Pan Am airplane that exploded over Lockerbie Scotland was just another Moslem extremist attack against the United States, mainly because the US is the biggest ally of Israel.

So, Israel knows that invading Lebanon is not a good idea, or easily done. Hezbollah has had a lot of time to dig in and buy rockets, many of which were brought into the country through the Beirut Airport, one of Israel’s first targets. Israel is hoping that they can keep the pressure on long enough for the rest of the world to intervene. That’s why the United States hasn’t condemned the attacks, but they are getting close. Now that the fighting has started it won’t end until some other nation(s) stops it. If Israel lets go of the prisoners then the fighting will pause and then start up again. If for no other reason then that the released prisoners will want revenge on Israel, and are already Moslem extremists, that were jailed for attacking Israel; so they will attack, it’s only a matter of time.

In the meantime Israel is playing standoff. They are attacking the infrastructure of Lebanon to slow Hezbollah down. They can’t attack the terrorists, because, as it is in Iraq, the terrorists hide among the population. They can’t attack the Lebanon government, because they aren’t in control. They can’t attack Syria or Iran, because they are not trying to harm Israel. Instead it is a proxy fight between Israel and terrorists who slip through the hands like water.

Why has Hezbollah chosen this time to attack? Look at what is happening in Palestine. Hamas is another Moslem extremist group. When they were elected to control Palestine the world waited, hoping that they would reform. Instead they started attacking Israel again. The kidnapping of Israel troops was a planned assault. When things got to difficult in Palestine for Hamas, then Hezbollah took over the fight. They have been stockpiling rockets for just this kind of event. If Israel stops attacking Hezbollah then another group will take up the fight. This is going to keep happening until Syria, Iran, and Saudi Arabia stop supporting the Moslem extremists. The Moslem extremists can’t fight Israel in a conventional battle; Israel has a much better army and will whip them off the map. If they get in a major battle with Israel then the US will help and they will be destroyed. So terrorism is the only way that they can fight.

Now comes the nuclear arms race in Iran. Israel has had the nuclear bomb for a long time. They haven’t used it because they would face universal contempt and loose all their support. Iran doesn’t have that problem. Most of the world is still supporting UN sanctions against them after the kidnapping of the US embassy (which was another terrorist attack against the US to try and hurt Israel). If Iran gets the A-Bomb then they could use it. They will be very likely to provide it to the Moslem extremists that they support, and they WILL use it! If Israel doesn’t keep defending themselves then they will be destroyed.

Who is right and who is wrong? After WWII when the Allies found out about the Holocaust, they felt guilty. Many nations had turned away fleeing Jews, and most of them were killed. So where to put the Jews? The best place would be to give them part of their ancestral homeland. The people controlling that area were nomads, and nobody cared about them so the Allies founded the nation of Israel. The Jews and the Moslems had fought over this land for many, many, years. Both groups had many holy sites in the area and did not want to give them up. The Moslems finally kicked the Jews out, and now they are being brought back in. So the Moslems got angry, and started fighting. You can’t blame them for being angry; they were fighting for their own land! Israel was founded and paid war reparations for the crimes that Hitler had committed against them. It seemed the best thing to do. The Jews needed a place to live and they were really beat up in WWII.

Then oil was discovered in the region. At first the oil companies from the WWII Allies were exploring, pumping, and making all the profit. Then the nations of the area decided to nationalize the oil companies. Now they were making the profit, so they could afford to support a war against Israel. Israel was paranoid, who would blame them after WWII? So they bought really good military equipment and enacted universal conscription (everybody had to serve a term in the military). They have a very tough military, with support from the Allies. They lost most of this support, but the US kept supporting them. When the Soviet Union started supporting the Moslems in the area the US stayed friends with Israel to help stop the spread of Communism.

The result of all this is more and more fighting. It won’t stop until the rest of the world stops using so much oil, which won’t happen until people stop agreeing to pay so much for it.

it relatively is not my opinion, basically what i understand approximately history - and could be seen an exceedingly typical evaluate for the objective of answering your question. The forcing of the state of Israel in the middle East displaced the Palestinians and left them and not utilizing a rustic (or in straightforward terms a million/2 - and not the section they needed). After various the Jewish human beings have been annihilated via Holocaust for the period of WWII, the worldwide felt undesirable and easily desperate the Jewish human beings could have their very very own u . s . - and the Jewish human beings needed it to be the place they think approximately is their "Promised Land", it is Jerusalem, positioned in Palestine. for this reason, this action left the Palestinians nationless. So, the Palestinians are, and function been, a gaggle of annoyed human beings considering then... which has led to persistent strife considering then, against Israel and of direction, any "Western" u . s . that helped come to a determination that destiny some time past... The Jewish community will say they have continuously been in the section - it is genuine, many Jewish immigrants went their in diferent waves, even nonetheless it became into not at all formally their territory until eventually after WWII. an honest source is the link i've got related.

Hope of working? Considering the Lebanese politicians are already screaming for a ceasefire, I'd say its working pretty good. A few more days, those guys might even be ready to kick Hezbollah out of South Lebanon LIKE THEY PROMISED TO DO SIX YEARS AGO!

who knows.

After all the experience(Beyrut,Palestine etc.) they should have learned that one can not stop a movement of the people, or if they do (like they succeeded in smothering the PLO) another more extreme and more violent group rises to take its' place. I think at this moment Israel is rolling its muscles to respond to the state of unease in the middle east at the moment(e.g. Irak, Irans weapons tests,...) I would not be surprised if they initiated attacks against themselves to get the ball rolling in the current crisis (they have done such things before like selling confiscated weapons from Beyrut to the palestinians etc.) They should try to use their heads and realise that as the smallest population group in the area, they will not keep their military advantage forever; and if they go on like they do know this can only lead to their demise.

It seems to me that they are trying to provoke all the Muslim world into starting WWIII. I agree that their strategy makes no sense, unless they are trying to get the Western powers to actively back them up by ratcheting up tensions in the Middle East to the breaking point. I really don't see any possible positive outcome for them from this strategy, they are surrounded by hostiles, both Syria & Iran are mobilizing. If those two get involved, we HAVE to take an active role, many nations will oppose that, and there we are again, World War.

The are using the same mass killing policy that the americans are using in Iraq. They want simply to destroy everyone who will not do what they want. I think they copy the west policy in Iraq.
