To hear a white people complain of racism is the most absurd thing. White people have not begun to feel the kind of racism that they have inflicted on others. White people have practiced it for centuries. True racism can only be practiced by the people in power.

What white people experience is called prejudice and bigotry and its about time you got a taste of your own medicine. It won't kill you, it will make you stronger.

perfect example. Your were discriminated against, indeed. But I am making a distinction between that and racism. You were probably discrimated against by people of your own race.

oh and 40 acres and mule is a myth, if black people had gotten that there wouldn't be ghettoes. Or at least they would be as full.

I don't think they are refering to racism. It's basic prejudice, which happens everywhere. There is always a group which do not like another group or do not like everyone else.

I am a white person and I have been a victim of racism. I was passed over for promotions because I was white...a hispanic female with less experience and less education was picked. Then the next time it was a black male same situation, but because there was already two white males as supervisors they did not want another. It should be based on qualifications, education and experience. Not gender or race.
In case you have forgotten slavery ended a very long time ago. Why persecute people today for things that happened so long ago our grandparents have a hard time remembering it...?
Example:
We find a diary today that has a hand written confession from your grandfather, admitting that he killed someone when he was 30 years old. It was a murder that was never solved...you are the only surviving member of this family so you get arrested and sent to prison. Is that fair? The government paid a fair price for their mistake with 40 acres and a mule. The mule is long dead and youre still beating it...get over it already.

Dude what the hell. I am a brown guy and my question is why it is the most absurd thing that white people complain about racism. Racism affects all races. I think that you are being racist. You wanna give white people a taste of their own medicine? Two wrongs do not make a right. What's putting white people into slavery gonna do? That the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Saying sh*t like this is only going to pi$s off other races. We should never forget about the slavery thing, although I do I think it's about time that we stopped talking about the slavery thing. Its people like you that keep racism around. Stop bringing up things from the past because it brings back hatred from all races.

People are entitled to their opinions, but some people go way too far.

It is 2006, why does anyone in our society worry about race? If everyone would worry about their own lives and quit trying to find issues where none exists, we could finally have peace in the world.

Some of the most racist people I have ever met are black. Some talk about other black people that have very dark skin or they talk about those with very light colored skin. It seems that even within the same race, racism is a big issue. When was the last time you heard two white people talking negatively about the particular skin shade of another white person?

I grew up in the 60's and 70's and never understood why the problem existed in the first place. 40-some-odd years later, I still do not understand why racism exists.

Let everyone be free!

Oh jeez. ALL people, regardless of color, have been practicing racism for millenia my friend. Finding fault with others is human nature, whether for malicious reasons (to justify enslaving other humans) or even benign humorous reasons (if you don't laugh at Dave Chappelle you may be turning a lump of coal into a diamond somewhere inside you).

Besides, who was enslaving Africans (in particular) first, other Africans or Europeans? Hello! Sure as hell wasn't Antarticans!

In the current era, who begot whose racism is just a chicken and egg argument. And some it's bad, some of it's neutral. The fact that many members of various ethnic groups tend to live and associate primarily "with their own kind" is racist, but in that respect, racist is little more than a label with no actual consequence.

Racism? Prejudice? Bigotry? Semantics! Toe-MAY-toe, Toe-MAH-toe!

At the end of the day I really don't care, because racism is just one more subcategory of groupism, and groupism is all things that are contrary to individualism. These are the two absolutes of reality. Everything else is quibbling, splitting hairs, and a distraction.

I feel extremely discriminated against. I get straight A's in school and don't get a scholarship when someone of another race who didn't get the best grades does get one, there is an organization at the college i went to that offers financial and tutoring help to minorities....but if I don't have enough money to pay for books, I'm not elligable. Companies get paid extra to hire minorities, not me. Minorities get money from the government for being a minority...yet I am barely making it with no help from anyone. Minorities can say whatever they want about whomever they want....but if I do, I'm an evil Nazi or whatever. There's no special-interest groups for whites, there are for every other race. A friend of mine at work complained some of the people she worked with were doing all kinds of talking and no work (they happened to be hmong), and SHE got in trouble for saying it. I was discussing an article in the newspaper with a coworker about Mexican illegal imigration and I got in trouble for referring to Mexicans because there were some who worked with us. All kinds of money is spent on minorities who are having a hard time in school, learning english....but if a white child is having problems, it doesn't matter. They have to go to "special" classes. If I minority were sent to a "special" class, they could cry racism and be sent back. And the worst part??? I'm not allowed to complain about it like you are because I am supposed to just sit back and accept that I'm scum because I'm white. Is that a long enough list for you or do you want more?????

I can't speak on behalf of all white people, but I can speak for myself and I don't complain about racism that much. Sometimes I do feel like I'm immediently considered racist because I'm white. Looking back on the past I feel disgust and almost hatred to those who ARE racist towards african americans.

My answer to your question would be, I have no idea why white people complain about raism. It could just be your area or the types of white folks you talk to.

on this site time and time again these questions and answers are becoming redundant. I am not saying racism doesn't exist. I see people on here complaining about what another race is doing and benefits they are receiving. this often provides some people a means to cast blame on other races or people for their life's misfortunes. this in itself is counter productive. S**it I understand that life is hard and not fair instead of blaming. Take responsibility and make things happen for yourself.

You are delusional it is racism and don't think for one second that whites are the only one capable or guilty of praticing it. Maybe white complain about it because no matter what they do to reverse the things done in the past you won't come any closer to the line because ti is more convienient for you to act the victim and blame others for your own problems and acts.

Well, for my 2 cents, that's a pretty broad brush you're painting with, there. Maybe you don't call it racism, but whatever you're spewing sounds like it to me. You aren't old enough to have been involved with the Civil Rights movement - I am. You weren't involved, I was.

I still am.

Where does that put us? You think my white skin is so thick I don't feel the pain of my brothers? Get out there and get in it.

I don't care what color your skin is, it's not a good enough excuse to lie down, suffer, and all you get out of it is an opportunity to complain.

This is EXACTLY the sort of thing white people are complaining about when they complain about racism. The attitudes of some small groups in non-white ethnic groups that seem to think past racism needs to be over-compensated for, and the way these minority attitudes tilt government policy in such a disproprtionate manner.

Any sort of government policy that favours any race, be they black, white, yellow, or anything else, is racist. End of story. If you don't agree with that, you're a complete fool.
