No one has been able to give me an answer that makes sense. I wonder if anyone here knows why this is such a "great idea"?

Because there is bad blood between China and USA. The Americans want India to have a thriving economy so that they will tie with China and become the third or second Superpower. It is all because America is greedy with power and do not want such influence over the world to be taken!

ok, honey, sorry that none of these other idiots know the answer, they just cry "greedy corporations" without thinking. but here is the real answer. america has always outsourced jobs to make room for expansion of new industies. we used to call it mechanization. in 1800, 97% of all americans were needed as farmers to keep us all from starving, and going naked. if we had not mechanized farming, we would all still be subsistance farming like they do in africa, starving most of the time. also, where would we have founf the workers for all the thousands of industries that have started upsince then? we could not have any of them without the available workers. in the 80's and 90's, mechanization turned to computerization. look at the tens of millions of americans making great money in computers. it could not have happened without earlier mechaization. now computers have completed the mechaization process. production is about as fast and efficient as possible. now the only way to make room for new better paying technical jobs is to send mediocre jobs over seas. and believe me, cusomer service, spending all day on the phone with pissed off americans is no great job to have. but this frees up qualified americans to get in on the next big thing, what ever it is. this also creates a fairly well paid consumer in india, rather than a decomposing, depreciating asset. this is better for the jobs here, as india and china become better consumers with each year. they already buy all of our software, and soon will be buying power plants, and cars. then WE all get richer.

It's great source of highly skiled labor, increasingly English speaking, And the location means they can do operations when the US is in it's night time hours. The numbers of engineers, doctors, computer people & Customer service folks they can supply at a cheaper labor rate is increasing. It's a good thing for both. It boosts their economy and they do jobs that would cost too much to do here. Sad fact is America is producing more kids who want to be Rap stars, than Civil engineers or doctors. They can read a xray in India as well as sombody in DeMoines and do it at 1/2 the price.

I would have to agree w/ Jeff's answer.

To a major company everything comes down to one thing, the bottom line.

It's less expensive for companies to outsource their product/services to other countries, because it costs the company less money.

The company I work for does this, and every day I hear from at least 5 - 10 customers that they are frustrated with having to deal with someone in another country who is difficult to understand and because of this communication barrier, mistakes are made, customers are upset, and business will eventually be lost . . . all to save the company a few cents per hour. Kinda sad, isn't it?

The reason that my company outsources to India is - according to my manager - is this:
The company can pay someone in India $3 - $4 per hour whereas they'd have to pay someone in the United States $8 - $10 per hour to do the same job.

I invite you to tour India (and/or China) virtually or otherwise. Both have a large and desperate population willing to work for wages that Mexicans would not even wake up for. And, if you happen to be one of the 300 +/- American billionaires looking to improve the family fortune where are you going to invest your money? Omaha is lovely this time of year don't you think?

via the tens of 1000's. want help with a product from Microsoft, HP, Compaq, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, Canon, Xerox or everyone of 1000's of alternative call manufacturers offered interior the US? call the help line and you will refer to 'Joe', an Indian sitting in a cubicle in Bangalore. i be conscious of many Indians, my business enterprise workers greater effective than a hundred of them. they are good, tricky-working people who earn an honest living. yet till the unemployment fee interior the US is under 4%, i could look slightly harder to fill open positions with human beings first.

Well it's not really the 'U.S.' (government) that is outsourcing there. It's individual companies, who, living in a capitalist nation, are doing what they're expected to do. Make lots of money, with as little cost or care as possible.

to the american industries, they are getting their service done for a fraction of the price of what it woud cost in america. what they dont realize is that once they have a finished product, there will be less people to buy it due to lack of jobs meaning less money
