The below will help you to remove the Butter Stain, Margarine or Oil stain -
Mix one teaspoon of liquid detergent with warm water.
Daub over the stain and dry it with absorbent paper or paper towel.
You might have to do it for several times.
Mix one part of vinegar and two parts of water.
Apply the mixture on the stain.
Dab it with absorbent paper or paper towel until dry.
Wash normally.
Or...
First get a good grease solvent such as goop and apply to the butter stain.
Let the clothing sit for about 2 hours.
Take some liquid laundry soap or dishwashing liquid and apply a few drops to the stain.
Work the detergent into the stain with your fingertips.
Be gentle.
Launder as usual.

BUTTER IS LIKE ANIMAL FAT, OR GREASE STAINS.
Put some Tide Stick (the Tide product you put in your purse for "those" occassions) you can get in a grocer store. It looks like a magic maker, and it gets the stain out PRONTO! Personally though, I would wash the fabric, immediately after putting the stuff on it.

Rub some stain remover or a little dish soap into it and wash it like you normally would. It's grease.
