Most of the newer cars today have a place to plug in the car end of the connector. you just need to go to a auto parts place or dealer and get one. If you don't have that, and you don't understand auto wiring it would be best if you go someplace and have it installed. It is too difficult to explain on here and you need to know what wires are what too.

Ok, if I under stand what you are saying, " you want to just hook up a 12v battery to your trailer so you can have just lights?" because if you want more than that, like " have the micro wave work, electrical plugs? That is different. so now, if you want just to have the lights work, you can test for that, First: from your battery hook up the ground from the battery to the trailer body, frame. Second, from the positive side of the battery, take a wire and touch each one of the connectors, "Note, do not touch the ground connector with the positive. It sounds to me like the likley source would be the "battery" termanal in the pig tail. Hope that helps.

the pig tail is for your lights etc when hooked to a car. you can get the hookup for your car from any auto store. I have to ask if you are asking about power for a utility trailer or a camp trailer? If it's a camp trailer and not self contained, you can use either a car battery or a generator . Either one has various adaptors and additional transformers so you can have just about anything running inside.

The pigtail is supose to have a plug (jack)on it that plugs in to the trailer conection on your bumper. If you don't have a place on your bumper that fits it you will have to get a new kit(which will tell you what gos where (depends on vehicle))
