I wish it were true...

This site says it was an untrue rumor that John Lennon appeared on "Day Tripper": http://www.warr.org/hendrix.html
"This time the liner notes correctly quash the rumor that John Lennon appears on the cover of "Day Tripper" - the co-lead vocal is (Noel) Redding's"

This site doesn't even mention the rumors: http://www.johnmcferrinmusicreviews.org/jimi.html#bbc
This time the liner notes correctly quash the rumor that John Lennon appears on the cover of "Day Tripper" - the co-lead vocal is Redding's

This site has people debating wether it's true or not:

This gentleman, Danno, also says it's a rumor: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000007OJ9/103-1244698-1745418?v=glance&n=5174
Ryko should be downright ashamed of themselves for implying that John Lennon sang backup on Jimi's version of 'Day Tripper.' (The rumor, as anyone with ears will tell you, simply isn't true).

Wikipedia says Jimi covered it - not that he recorded a version with them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_Tripper

I cannot cite a website, but here's how this went down.

In 1967, Jimi Hendrix made several appearances on Radio One playing a variety of songs. One was Day Tripper, sung by both Jimi and Noel. This made it sound a lot less like Jimi and a lot more like any other dude.

Then there was a bootleg record ages ago called "A Guitar's All Right John, But You'll Never Make a Living With It", which had the Radio One version of Day Tripper on it. Unfortunately, This was a John Lennon bootleg, even though Lennon had NOTHING to do with this performance.

Later, when Ryco put out their first edition of Hendrix "Radio One", they included Day Tripper, with the note "And who is that singing in the background? One can only IMAGINE...", to give a nod and wink to the notion that Lennon was on it.

The MCA version of Radio One dispels that myth completely. Simply put - Hendrix never performed with ANY of the Beatles, ever ever, and that version of Day Tripper is just The Experience. However, they did admire each other's work, and McCartney was playing part of Foxy Lady on his last Us tour.

Jimi jammed with the Beatles?
Absolutely!

Unfortunately history is sometimes rewritten by those who were not in the room...

But without a doubt they jammed, and recorded it (no it was not a studio production , w backups and overdubs etc., but they did). And while I was not in the room at the time or even born yet, but I do have the recordings to prove it

Of course, we should just ask Sir Paul or Sir Ringo if it is true, to get the version of history from the individuals who were in the room.

Nuff Said!

Well, if they havent, how is there a recording of it? I have an mp3 that is supposedly Hendrix playing that song with The Beatles. At least, it sounds like Hendrix on the solos. I bet you found the same recording.
