Why do other "artists" remake songs without credit to the original artist? For example, P. Diddy or Diddy or whatever his name is this week keeps stealing rock songs...I just heard the "new" song "One" by Mary J. Blige and U2 and they took the song from Vanessa Paradis...It just ANNOYS me that nobody has any original songs...

I know that U2 were the original artists of "One", but why did they redo it with Mary J. Blige?

Most do it because it's cheap filler.
However, some bands/artists remake some songs as a tribute.
Hagar/Shreve/Aaronson/&Schon (HSAS) in the 80s did a kick-a$$ rendition of Procol Harum's 'Whiter Shade of Pale'.
On the country side, Brooks & Dunn's remake of 'My Maria' was better than the original, mainly due to their vocals.
And, as many people don't like him, Michael Bolton has done justice to his many remakes of songs. Maybe Bolton realizes he's not that creative, but has some great pipes, so instead of putting out mediocre stuff, he feels safer doing homages to great song writers.

Well actually, one can not remake a song without permission from the original song writer. If that person is deceased they have to go through the next person in line. The same as when Tupac's mother sued for someone producing songs he had written, after he was deceased.
I feel that people recreate, or "sample" songs because they like the song and want to add their own twist to it. Or sometimes make a country song, hip hop, or make a gospel song, R & B.

a remake has a captive market, so its sometimes cheaper and more viable to do remakes. But its not true that they are uncredited, most of them anyway. Although they may not be on the title, the writers of the song (not the artists or the singers, if they are not the writers) are almost always given credit. Just check out the composers or the album liners.

The "artists" remake songs because the public continue to buy them. If "One", "Drift Away" etc didn't do so well on the charts, music makers would be less inclined to capitalize on this and more likely to get their "assets" in gear and write new music for their adoring public.

The same reason they remake movies. No originality what so ever. And they call themselves artists???
