I love to crochet and have been doing it for the past 4 years. Last year I won 2 second-place and 2 third-place ribbons for work I entered in the county fair (I'm entering more this year).

The Lion Brand yarn website is a very good place to start. It shows you how to begin and gives you some beginner patterns as well. I listed it as your source link.

P.S. You might want to become familiar with the yarn section of your local Wal-Mart or Jo-Ann Fabrics store. Red Heart makes a very good (and inexpensive) yarn to start out with, and Boye needles are very reliable.

I second Lionbrand and About.com. They both have excellent illustrated stitch guides. However, it is always nice to have a hands-on demonstration if you can find someone. Best of luck!
