It will suddenly flick over to a widescreen-like setting that will extend items beyond the screen's field of vision... Its an older screen (TV type, not flatscreen or anything) and I just got it at goodwill, so I can return it if need be.
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks
Matt
Also I run on Windows XP 2003 if you think that might have anything to do with it.

Ok, this may have been answered but I'm tired and too lazy to check, so here goes. Go to your desktop and right click. Then left click on properties. Inside this, you'll see monitor and adaptor. I would screw around with this, because most likely your computer has switched your adaptor or monitor driver and it's trying to adjust it for the monitor it thinks you have installed. That's as far as I can bring you without sitting at your computer and messing with it myself. Good luck.. make sure to check these drivers against the ones that you carefully saved when you you bought your computer...right?

If not.. .search manufacturer's sites for updates.. I do about every 5 months to a year..

Just to be safe.

Good luck!!

Go into the controls on the monitor itself and hit the DEGAUSS button. Just goof with the controls until you find it. Do it a few times, and then do it on a regular basis. After that, you may have to readjust the horizontal, vertical, pincushion and so on. When you degauss, the screen will jump and there will be a sort of humming sound. It's normal.

Spy ware virus worms etc. It is because of XP and it is just Bill Gates trying to protect his empire because his secrets have been unmasked a long time ago. Yes, Bill does slam your computer with virus and spyware especially, because he wants to spy on you and control you in the environment he created. He knows he will be taken down someday, that is why he is retiring in 2008.

Software can do that. If it switches to 800x600 when you run certain applications (video, games, etc.) then that is the culprit.
