First, virtually EVERYBODY in Washington supports Israel. If you look back through time, the Left has been a much stronger ally to Israel than the Right ever has. Back in the 60's and 70's when the Right was taking a "hands off" approach to the Middle East, the Left insisted that we support "Democratic" Israel. Only recently has the Right gotten on the bandwagon. But don't imagine that the majority of the left will behave any differently. Opposing Israel is a deadly move for any politician, as the pro-Israel lobby is extremely active, and works hard to defeat those politicians. They are usually successful.

Even today, however, I suspect you'd find weaker support for Israel among old-line Conservatives than you would among so-called Liberals. However, among the neo-Cons, support for Israel is an absolute. This is one of their primary positions.

Trouble is, you still don't understand that neo-Cons are NOT conservatives. They are reformed leftists who still hold mostly leftist positions but are pro-Israel and pro-military, and very hawkish. Think of them as "liberals who have been mugged" by reality.

Finally, I think most of us, even those of us who have questioned Israel harshly in the past, are becoming increasingly tolerant of their actions, even when we find them extreme. This is because we feel forced into a corner with them. I simply don't see how we're safer with Israel blown off the face of the earth.

It is my understanding that Israel has enough miliary might that they could have flattened southern Lebanon. It seems as though they are making an effort to not just randomly take out civilians.

Do you feel it is okay that Hezbola(sp) crossed the border, killed 4 soldiers and kidnapped two? Is it okay that they had many, many weapons aimed at Israel? This, on land that Israel abandoned in an attempt to reach a peace with their neighbors...

In the present situation,Israel is responding to a blatant act of agression by their soldiers being taken.I don`t think that most countries (including Israel) target innocent civilians,but any time there is war ,there is a chance that innocent civilians will be harmed.They are not targeted,but just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

the twin towers were important financial buildings in the States and yet they were just buildings filled with civilians. Innocents die in all manner of warfare, even practices. this is war. Israel against many of the Arab nations, and al Qaeda against the world.

Because they are actually targeting military buildings and military personnel. No one in any administration honestly believes that no civilians will ever get hurt doing that, but 9/11 was a specific attack on a civilian building with the intent of killing only civilians.

They have been to deliver there troops to the border to take out Hezbollah ( a terrorist regime!) and that they did no longer of direction via fact Hezbollah is working Lebanon! they're too afraid. in addition they had 2 of their squaddies abducted via Hezbollah who anounced before that they intend to wipe them off the face of the earth which has continuously been their purpose. they're like "Hilter" and choose to get rid of the Jews!
