Why does it matter? But all the actors in everyone's plays were male. That was just the time. Does that mean the authors of all plays were gay? Aren't there more important things to think about?

Definitely not... he was such a forward-thinker -- if he had been, wouldn't you think it would have been in his plays?
Even if they would have been criticized... the guy was fearless, and he took criticism well. It wouldn't have stopped him, anyway.
He didn't have any desire to put that 'kind' of love into his writing, and so he didn't. =) Simple as that, mi cherie.
