Those area are not close to center city, but still in Philadelphia. You would be either taking a bus connecting to train. or taking a train to cc. Northeast Philly, for the most part is nice, and more spacious and less crowded than living in cc. If you will be traveling to cc a lot, I would make sure you rent on the east side of Roosevelt Blvd. If you have specific questions, email me.

Lived in Philly for years. For diverse, fun and safe (as safe as you can be in any major city) Try:
University City: close to Penn & Drexel w/easy access to El train, regional rail and buses. Sorry, but I've forgotten the apartments and zip codes.

Fairmount: great for young, urban, prof's. Mainly bus transportation, but you are minutes from center city. Near Art Museum and Ben Franklin Parkway. Again, not sure of zip codes.

East Falls: great area and right off Kelly and MLK drives. Close to regional rails and subway. Lots of buses. Look into the following places: School Lane House Apartments, Alden Park & Park Heights.

West Mt. Airy: also great area w/good trans. Try the Cliveden, Upsal Garden Apartments

Chestnut Hill: a little pricer, but also close to everything and very nice. Look into Chestnut Hill Village.

Also, consider renting a house. It may prove cheaper. Here is a website you can look into: http://www.move.com/homes/main.aspx?poe=move

Zip codes for these areas I remember are: 19118 (Chestnut Hill), 19119 (West Mt. Airy), 19129 (Roxborough), 19127 (Manyunk), 19128 (East Falls) and 19144 (Northwest Germantown only)

Good luck and enjoy Philly!

This is a link to a recent answer to a similar question. Your link in the question isn't working for me, so I'm not sure what you're looking at. The Northeast is a bit of a drive from Center City, and I'd imagine it'd be a pretty decent bus or train ride if that's where you decide to go.

Do not give people in the Internet specific info. You may come out very hurt.

Go to or write to City Hall about this type of question. If someone says 'write to me', be very careful. You don't know what you're getting into. I tell you this as if you were one of my 3 daughters.

philly is alot bigger than people think...so an apartment in philly may be nowhere near downtown philly....and also, keep in mind there are certain really bad areas...
