Have you tried checking the internet to see if the county in which the home is located offers sales & tax records online at no charge? Try by searching your county by name, then when you find the county website, see if the recorders office has info available online.
Also, I just stumbled upon a website today via an article in a local newspaper, it may help you. I've listed it below, it gives you sales and tax info, PLUS tells you the approximate value of the home ~ just type in the address. Pretty neat website! Good luck!

County Appraiser has some info. The info is often online; you can often merely put in the address and get sales history plus other details. (Depends on how your county makes that info available of course.)

Go to your County Public Records Office if the info is not available on the web.

Call your local County Tax Assessor's office. Or try to google if they have a website--many counties list ownership in their tax records. Also check for land or deed registration with your county--many times an out of state owner will leave a forwarding address.

The County Clerk or Register of Deeds- will tell you who owns it and who previously owned it.
