Sounds like a hernia to me.
My younger daughter has an umbilical hernia, which isn't anything to worry about. It should go away on its own by the time she's five.
But hers isn't blue.
Can you push it in? We can push Stella's all the way into her belly and it's not painful or hard or anything.
How old is your baby?
This is obviously a new problem, right?
I think you need to consult your pediatrician. Other kinds of hernias aren't as benign as the umbilical variety, and it would be terrible if it strangulated and your baby had to undergo intestinal surgery or something like that...

My best friend's baby had the exact thing you are describing and it was a hernia, some say to put a quarter on it with tape and it will go away. But what I really think is that you and a doctor will have to determine if it is big enough to warrant surgery. Sometimes a hernia will just go away in time, but my friend's baby had to have surgery, and niether the surgery nor the actual hernia hurt the baby. Good Luck!

Most likely it is a umbilical hernia. My daughter had it, I was so concerned and the doctor told me it is common and effects about 15% of babies. It started to clear up when she was around 4 months. She is nine months now and has been normal for several months. The doctor told me some may require surgery at about 2-3 years.
I know it can be scary and to ease your mind I would take him/her to the doctors or call.

For Gods Sake, DON'T PUSH IT IN! When anything on your child turns blue it is time to take him to the doctor! If it is a hernia, it could be a small portion of his bowel sticking out through the small hole in his stomach muscle, and if you poke it and it bursts you could cause rampant infection! Just call your pediatrician's office and tell the nurse what's up, they will get you an appointment to see the doctor, and in the meantime, just leave it alone and keep him in relatively loose clothing.

Yes, usually hernias are below the belly button, but it's possibly a hernia. Take the child in, don't ignore it.

Yes you should be worried and you should take the baby to the doctor. That sounds like a hernia.

It's an umbilical hernia. While some go away on their own, others require surgery. My daughter had hers surgically repaired when she was 18 months old.
You should see your pediatrician to discuss the appropriate action for your baby.

I agree with Tony Pepperoni. My cousin had a hernia like that when he was a baby.

I suggest you take him in to get it looked at, if it's not hurting him I'm sure its fine but better safe than sorry.
