Do you have BMW?

BMW and other car makers have variable Length manifold runners. The runner is the tubes inside an intake manifold that carry the air/fuel mix the the cylinders. Engines operate at best efficiency when the RPM's and the runner Length are in "tune". Sort of like a trombone player moving the slide to hit a good high note versus a low note.
Anyway they can now open and close "flappers' or valves to control the route the air takes to get from the intake to the cylinders and tune the engine dynamically as you drive.
