You can get bags of nitrogen at Garden Centers.

Look at this site. It lists a "flourish of growth" as a disadvantage of "quick release" nitrogens.

Though "pure nitrogen" may be good for sudden growth -- keep in mind you want to (should) develop a strong root system. Therefore, a more balanced fertilizer, even if it has a significantly higher "first number" [nitrogen], would be a better all-around fertilizer for developing stronger roots and stalks as well.

P.S. Follow the instructions for any fertilizer carefully (especially if using high nitrogen content) -- it usually needs to be watered in well immediately after application. Most particularly, do not let high-nitrogen sit on your lawn very long (without watering in) because it can burn your lawn severely.

Try a 50/50 mix of clovers and grass. Clovers put nitrogen into the soil and grass "eats" the nitrogen.

Weed and Feed plus water- have a soil sample analysed- Co -op or County- then get the right stuff, I need to do this also-
