It seems rather simple to me. If teenagers arn't tought about sex and contraceptives by someone, parents or teachers, they will make stupid, uninformed decisions about sex. Teenagers are going to have sex, you can't just tell them "It's bad, don't do it." That's probably the best way to get them TO do it. They'll have unprotected sex, get pregnant, and will be too scared to tell their parents, and so will get an abortion. Without sex education and birth control, you'll always have people having abortions. The people who don't want their children taught about sex but who still think that abortions are evil and wrong seem to be shooting themselves in the foot.

I realize I made some rather generalized statements, but I was just going off my own experences debating with people. I know that not everyone who is against abortion is against sex ed. And also, whoever said that sex ed should only be tought in college... um, hello? Girls can get pregnant at 11, they need to be tought the truth about sex as soon as possible.

People who are against abortions are not realist. They don't understand the world outside their door. Sex happens. Do you really want young girls giving up their lives and dreams for an unwanted baby.

That's not categorically true, and to make such a sweeping statement makes you just as closed-minded and judgmental as everyone else. There are lots of people that are against abortion but also want comprehensive sex education. What they want, though, in those cases, is OFTEN they want abstinence included in the curriculum. Personally, abstinence is way up and we're seeing as a society that it has a lot of benefits and I think that's a very good thing on all kinds of levels.

I'm largely against abortion *for convenience,* but not out of *medical **necessity**.* Still, I'd like teenagers to know about sex so that they can be informed of their obligations after getting pregnant.
I agree that it's irresponsible to order them to not do it and expect blind compliance. But most abortions would truly be unnecessary if people would make better initial decisions, so it's also irresponsible to place the blame on parents/teachers for giving orders and/or not teaching. People who are old enough to have sex should have *some* ability to recognize what's happening and know enough about "unwanted pregnancies" to know that sex leads to babies - if you don't want a baby yet, don't have sex.
The lesson really is that simple if people could quit making excuses for themselves.

Yeah, but the thing is that it's not being taught to teens in school,,,, it's being taught to 4th graders. That's like my nine year old sis,,,that's kinda scary to me,,,,but anyway,,,there's about 3-4 years between 4th grade and teen....and i think it's the parents job to explain sex... as for abortion, I'm against that too, but like I said, it's not like if someone isn't taught sex ed, they just don't know what it is and don't think that it's wrong,,,,people have a conscience and parents...

It's because those people preach abstinence and they refuse to understand the logic of your very good argument.
They fail to realize or accept that teen pregnancy is a real problem and abstinence will not be used by everyone.

Teaching sex in school leads to more pregnancy, not less.
