Try this, Run the System restore CD, and advertise it as a third party referb or blemished model depending on the condition of the computer. You will probably get more than those other guys are telling you. 2+ GHZ and 1GB of ram brings in approx $1000 right now.
Try selling it on eBay with a reserve first. If it doesn't sell for your reserve you can always remove the reserve.

Well I was just going through a search on ebay with that model type. The highest I saw was $500 like new. It's almost not even worth selling. Like I have a piano that I got for 2000 that's not worth 300 now. It's worth more to me sitting in my living room, even if it is not used much. I would recommend using it as a backup perhaps. If you are getting a new computer, you could store backups of all your files on your laptop in case something happens to your new one. I would keep it, not worth it.

Not very much. Pentium 4 is old technology. HP computers are low end and poor quality probably at most get $1200 and realze next time you were ripped off for price

The question ought to be how little with my laptop go for. I bet you won't get any 4-figure offers, sorry. Used stuff goes cheap. Good stuff goes at a steal and the junk is always overpriced--and the buyer never knows which he is getting until after he's had it a while.
Sorry, but good luck selling it.

sorry to inform you, but you will not be able to get $2000 for a 4 year old computer.
you can get a new pavilion directly from hp, with a core duo processor, 1gb of ram, and 80 gb hard drive for under $1000.

You've got to be kidding!?
Second hand goods don't get great rates.
Try auctioning it on e-Bay and find out for yourself.
That's where you have the largest traffic and the chances of your getting the best bid are there.
All the best.
