You would think after all the years women have had to put up with this that someone would have been able to invent something to make it better!

Try buying some cod liver oil. It's over-the-counter, you don't need a prescription for it. It's got Vitamin A in it which is really good for decreasing menstrual bleeding. It should also help with cramping too. It probably won't work even within a day or two, but you'll probably notice a difference within a month of taking it every day. You can buy it at health food stores, like Wild Oats, Whole Foods or maybe the Vitamin Shoppe. I buy it online. Google it: Green Pastures cod liver oil. I take half a teaspoon in the morning with breakfast and half a teaspoon in the evening with dinner every day. I recommend the "high vitamin" cod liver oil. The Green Pastures one is "high vitamin" -as in 5750 IU per 1/2 teaspoon.
Anyway, it's worked to decrease all those problems of heavy bleeding and cramping for me. God bless! Whatever you decide to do.

My period got lighter when I switched to eating/drinking organic dairy (milk, yogurt, etc.)

I think it is because the organic does not have all the hormones in it that the regular stuff does...you may want to try it and see if it does the same for you.
