I like Macintosh more. The great thing about Mac is that you rarely, if ever, get viruses because they're just not Mac compatible. The only thing about Mac is that a lot of programs are also not Mac compatible. But, overall, I prefer the stability of Macintosh over Windows.

Macintosh refers to a type of personal computer hardware/platform while Windows refers an operating system. We are comparing apples to oranges here. However, let me try to answer.
If I have lots of spare income, I will take the Macintosh. If I have limited income, I will take a Windows based PC. A Windows based PC can be put together and taken apart, upgraded very easily and with very little money. Macintosh on the other hand, you are working on a lot of proprietary hardware. Expensive to upgrade.
There are many other considerations like the specific software you will use. The software you intend to use should dictate what platform to go with.
I have not seen any large company (public or private) having Macintosh as their standard personal computer for everyday use. Yes there are smaller companies that have specific needs that primarily use Apple based computers.
Comparing them to cars... The Windows PC is more like your Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Functional. Cheap. Easy to fix. The Machintosh is more like a Saab. More expensive. More unique, not everyone has it. Looks cool but can be a headace when it has problems.

I've answered a similar question before so I'll just re-paste my answer:
Mac hands down no question.
My Mac starts up in around 10-15 seconds, the OS never does mysterious operations in the background slowing the whole computer down, doesn't demand that you get security updates every 5 mins, is immune to 99% of viruses, connects to networks instinctively and without hassle, is super easy to navigate, is intuitive, and, as long as you don't run Microsoft products on it, runs much smoother and faster than a PC of the same spec.
They are expensive, and Apple Mac would have you believe you can only use Mac products and accessories. But no, you can use PC monitors, mice, drives, cards, you name it.
And they look prettier too. So there you have it. Once you Mac there's no going back.
(Please send me an email if you'd like my personal details)

I prefer Windows because more programs are compatible with it, I use it at work and at home, and most places I go use Windows. The only place I ever see Macs are at schools and I'm not sure how they expect those kids to move from Macs to Windows, which is what the norm is in the outside world.

Mac, definitely. I'm a MCSA (Microsoft Certified System Administrator), and I manage more than 15K desktop/laptops and 100+ Win2K/2K3 servers in our enterprise...but I have a Mac at home. I don't want to have to continue working *on* computers when I get home; rather, I want to work *with* computers.
I've had my Macs (numbering 4) now for 2+ years and have loved every minute. On top of the obvious things such as lack of viruses/malware, system stability, and elegant design, the Mac just works better. Plus, I can manage my organization's entire network from my Mac...at home via a VPN connection.
I'm not saying that Windows is bad...just that I voted with my wallet and I picked the Mac...and I don't regret it.

I don't think you'll get anyone to leave all that info. . including me!
What!?? Are you writing a book??!!

If I were not savvy about how to avoid spyware and viruses, etc., then I'd choose a Mac (probably), altho' I don't like them and they are weird to me, but supposedly very user friendly.
I, however, would buy a Windows machine, because so much more software is written for PC's than Macs. Just a fact of life.
yes, I know, you can get Mac's that run Windows these days, but I still would get a PC instead. I'm used to it, and know how to avoid the security pitfalls (viruses, spyware, etc.)
