Mine is also one of Stephen King's books, the one titled "Pet Sematary". He described the resurrected dead cat so well that I can actually see and smell it as if it is just next to me. I was not able to sleep for several nights because of that book. :)

Dragon Tears by Dean Koontz creeped me out a lot...a scene in which the evil guy (who can create pretty much anything with his mind) creates the monster from Alien and uses it to terrorize homeless people. He can also stop time and uses that to terrorize his chosen victims. There was one part in which he's chasing his victims into a nightclub (he freezes everyone but the victims) and he just pulls the arm off of one of the people that were frozen in place, so when time starts back, they will just all of a sudden have no arm. Horrific.

Here are my three favorites:
When I was a teen---Hanging by John Peel scared me. It was one of those babysitting ones I think with chasing and hiding..
Two favorites now:
Shining by Stephen King
Some stories by H.P. Lovecraft--> the language this guy used is very eloquent and very imaginative.

When I was 8 I read a collection of short stories with a tale about a ghostly drummer boy. He beat his drum to get the attention of the kid, he wanted to take his place in the grave. I slept under my sister's bed for 3 nights hearing the tap tap of the drum in every noise.
Recently Jon Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven scared me - mainly because it's true.

I remember being scared silly by Stephen King's "The Shining." The word "Redrum" still gives me goosebumps. Also, about the same time, "The Amityville Horror" was out. That one was pretty scary too.

I think the one that stands out for me is "Cold Fire" by Dean Koontz. There's one part where he goes into detail about the ceiling above the bed giving birth (pretty much) to a huge freakin spider. Can I get an ICK??????
