wow that is deep. And true. People do copy what black men do, but no one wants the stigma associated with being black. Maybe the prejudice against blacks exists because the whites are the ones who actually feel inferior to the cool black men!

It's true. By far, the black experience is considered the most upbeat, cool, trendy, way to be. Of course, with that come stereotype after stereotype, because not every black person lives the type of life that is showcased by the media, just like not every white person is the narrow-minded, scaredy push-over that the media tends to portray us as. Media is the devil's advocate, and it makes a lot of generalizations about society, which in turn, tends to dictate how younger generations will see themselves and others. I'm not saying that any lifestyle is better than the other, because every individual has their own preferences. But I will say that you are correct. The black lifestyle according to the media is the most copied out of any other lifestyle in the world, as well as the lifestyle that has the most attention worldwide.

I guess most people desire the "cool status" of the black male which is glorified through music and videos but when it comes down to it no whitey or any other color wants to be black because the racial hardships still experienced by the blacks. I think the quote is very apt and holds alot of truth to it.

Apply that to whites. Everybody wanna be white, but nobody wanna be white.

It's like, everyone wants a good paying job with benefits, and a secure home and family. But all the white people always want to go out and get a deep dark tan.

It reminds me of Charles Dickens story of A tale of two cities - which starts out with:

"It was the worst of times - it was the best of times."

Similarly, it is also that for being black in America right now.

I get pretty put out myself with all of the white boys and girls running around trying to be black. Idon't understand why they just can't be what they are.I'm not prejudiced..but I don't think they realize how silly it makes them look..because it's not their culture and it makes them look out of place..to me. But that just might be because I'm older now.

wouldn't say everybody but for the most past, black culture has blended into the fabric of society and makes many people want to "be" like them. their dress, mannerism and attitudes atrike a chord in some people and make them want to emulate them as much as possible. from the point of not wanting to be a *****, is plainly that as much as they want to be "black" had they the choice to actually BE black as in culture and, namely, skin tone, they wouldn't. Chris rock had in his earlier HBO special said something to this effect when he stated that it sucks to be black. that there is a one legged half blind busboy out there that wouldn't want to trade places with him, and he's rich.

I think it speaks for itself! There is always a little bit of truth in everything! Yet, it's best to take it all with a grain of salt...in other words, there are a lot of other things too & this is just one of them!

it means people try to act black even if they're not because people think it's cool, but on the other hand they don't want to become literally black because the fear that they will be discriminated or maybe they are the ones who discriminate...
