Last year, ONE was in my yard, and now there are about nine. I WANT them,..they are just sooo unusual! I wish I could describe them, but it would take 200 words, for sure!

Firstly, can you see where they are coming from. It sounds like seedfall to me, so look around for the parent plant.
For identification of plant species you should probably try things like local gardening clubs or plant nurseries. The best way to get 100 percent positive identification it to send fresh specimens to your state herbarium (provided you have such a thing). They will probably want as Many parts of the plant as you can provide, flowers, fruit, seed pods, leaves etc... Have a look on the internet and you should be able to find your herbarium. It would be a good idea to telephone first and find out how best to send your plant specimen. Good luck.

I had the same experience!!! What I did was went down to my local bookstore (books-a-million) ~ or barnes & noble
and sat there flippin till I found it. I know that sounds so time consuming but the books are organized and easy to find the specific plant family. I thought of doing this too:
You could take a picture of the plant and take it to a horticulturist or your local nursery. That may be the easiest! Good luck to you, hope you find out what that thing is!!!

well when i searched to find out what a bug was called that i found in my house i just tried searching by what region i was ex:south carolina insects pictures so that i only came up with websites that had pictures and featured insects that were common in the area it took some patience but i did find it, it may give you a starting point, try adding more details like color height shade plants or sunplants to narrow it down (unless its growing in areas that are shady and in areas that are sunny)

take a snapshot of it and a bloom or leaf in a ziplock and go to a good garden store or nursery.

No luck there, then go to a local college botany dept and start asking.
