This isn't a peace question.

We can stop encouraging terrorism by changing our own ways.
The Bush administration seems to believe that any conflict can be resolved with enough guns and ammo.

So, as Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld have turned America into the world's biggest bully, other nations begin to consider nuclear weapons of mass destruction as a defense against the newest 'evil empire' - the United States of America.

For those whom the Bush administration characterizes as "terrorists", it's the same thing: they see the U.S.A. in the same way we view them: "terrorists" out to rule the world. They fight for their convictions, and for what they believe their "God" wants them to do. Bush fights for his convictions, and for what he believes his "God" wants him to do. The big difference is the 'terrorists' usually are right on the front lines willing to sacrifice their own lives for their beliefs. Bush, on the other hand, sends others to do his blood-letting so he doesn't have to get his hands dirty.

Bush (and his perceived enemies) subscribe to that old Biblical adage: "an eye for an eye".

Perhaps it would be better for civilization if both sides believed in another old Biblical adage: "turn the other cheek".

But neither side TRUSTS the other. And the U.S. has much more to prove to the rest of the world than they do to us. It is the United States, remember, that is the ONLY nation to launch atomic weapons deliberately intended to kill civilians.

Why should any of these religious zealots believe that we're a peace-loving nation when they have seen George Bush illegally and unconstitutionally invade another sovereign country for two lame reasons: 1) Bush wanted to 'finish' what his daddy started during Desert Storm; and 2) Dick Cheney wants all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands so he and his Exxon-Mobil buddies can get richer and richer and richer.

If we really want to stop terrorism, we must first of all stop our own terror tactics that we use all over the globe as we damn well see fit. Yes, we do it all in the name of bringing peace and democracy to the world. If that's the case, why don't we invade ALL those countries run by evil despots? Because ALL those other countries don't have OIL - something the U.S.A. wants at any cost, including the cost of human lives. For all those dictatorships who have no OIL, we allow the genocide to continue unabated. In fact, we sometimes even help finance it.

Over the past fifty years, America has established itself as an ogre of greed, hubris, and arrogance. Because we are a Christian nation, we think every other nation should be a Christian nation. Because we're a 'democracy', we believe all other nations should be a 'democracy'. So we bully or buy our way into becoming the control-freak that so many 'terrorists' perceive us to be.

Predictions:

There will be NO TROOP WITHDRAWALS from Iraq until Dick Cheney has an iron-clad, rock-solid arrangement in place, with the cooperation of the new Iraqi democratic government he helped install, to take all of Iraq's OIL.

We will NOT attack North Korea because it has no OIL. Instead, we will pursue diplomatic efforts toward some kind of resolution in that region.

As soon as the Bush administration can conjure up a plausible reason for doing so, we will illegally and unconstitutionally invade Iran. Why? Because Iran has OIL. Since Bush won't be able to fool Americans into believing Iran has weapons of mass destruction, he'll have to come up with a better ploy.

Just before the 2008 elections, Bush will fabricate another 'terrorist' attack on American soil, then will impose martial law, claiming that it would be in the interests of national security to NOT change administrations. That way he keeps the Bush dynasty in place until Jeb Bush can muster sufficient power to run for President. Even if our elections are delayed for six months of a year, it will be enough time to jostle for position and steal yet one more national election.

Terrorism happens because cowboys like George Bush think they can bully, cajole, and force their way into others' way of life and way of thinking. You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar, but Bush is too much of a coward to give up his machismo.

The very first thing we should do - if we want the world to trust us - is to publicly destroy all of our own weapons of mass destruction. But, because we know ourselves to be untrustworthy, we wouldn't dare trust that the world might follow such a radical and world-changing example. -RKO-

this realy is a hard question and i dont think any one would be able to answer it accordingly. there are many reasons why wars and fighting and killing innocent people happen. some reasons being....land. properties. religion. hate against other people. fighting for freedom. to me its just a case of this...why we have hot headed presidents in government it wont be resolved. each one to me is trying to prove to the other how good and better they think they can make the world. bush and blair went into iran/iraq thinking they could make this situation better so at the end of it they can sit back take credit and say yes we did what we had to do and resolved a situation that no other could do. but no. it took long it hasnt been resolved and no they didnt do what they wanted to do. so they went back to the drawing board to find better solutions. this time they were more frustrated because they were getting no where. so instead if thinking radical they thought irrashenal. and situations got worst. let alone all the talk in between this time of oil rigs. illigal weapons. money. etc..and the list goes on and on...even if bush and blair conqured this. there be more fighting and something else to fight about. its a dead end job and i dont think itll be resolved for a long time to come. my heart goes out to all the children and women who get killed every day innocents...its a mans war and always will be..

The only thing to do is to eliminate the reason for terrorism! That is, give the Palestinians what is rightfully theirs and all reason for terrorism will be gone!
It all goes back to the fact that the territory, what is now the state of Israel, was forcefully stolen from the Palestinian people. When the UN under leadership of the US gave that territory to the Jews, this land was inhabited by 7 million Palestinians, most of which were forcefully evicted from their homes and country and until now live in refugee camps, just to make place for 1 million Jews.
Under normal circumstances it is American way of life to stand by the suppressed, which in this case are not the Jews, but the Palestinians!

We really can't do anything. Terrorism is an act of cowardice. Therefore, if we try to run the terrorist down, they will hide. If we find them and kill them, they would die as heroes and martyrs.
The only thing that we can do is to show no fear and live our lives like we usually do. If we change, then they have won.
A little more tolerance towards others and a little less of arrogance would help a lot also.

Well, I firmly believe that as long as there is religion (more specifically, multiple religions) in the world, there will be fundamentalist terrorists that are brainwashed into thinking their god wants them to kill innocents. You just have to look throughout history to see how many wars are fought in the name of religion. Religion breeds terrorism. I know some people don't want to believe this, but this is really where terrorism comes from.

And I don't see religion going away anytime soon, so I don't see terrorism going away either. It will continue forever, or until the world unites to a more common set of ethics, values, society, religion, etc. I don't really see how that can be done, honestly.

The terrorists win when the USA is prompted to act frightened and terrorized, and then subsequently pound an unseen enemy as if it were an ant beneath a two ton anvil in numerous places.

The terrorists lose when the USA and its citizens remain vigilant and armed, and terrorists find themselves up against private citizens who stop them in their tracks. Like the people on Flight 93...or Like an old granny with a Colt 45 saying "Sonny, you better put that vial of anthrax down or I'll be forced to send you to Allah."

US should stop invading there countries. Why is it that the US is still in the middle east? Do you think Bush would care if they had no oil? There was no weapons of mass destruction. He didn't care the last time he invaded Iraq. Left all those iraqi's there to do die after they helped the US. If the US minded there own business, maybe there wouldn't be such a major hatred for the US.

Education is the answer. The individuals that inspire or commit random acts of terrorism are basically of the most ignorant and backwards culture on the face of the earth. I say " that if you think education is expensive, you should try ignorance" is rather quite applicable in this case. The cost of terrorism is incalculable and that is unarguable. Assimilate and/or isolate through the legislative process. It would also help to legalize marijuana.

Muslims don't eat pork because the pig is forbidden, considered extremely unclean and untouchable.
Since Muslim terrorists don't fear death (glorious martyr syndrome), if the United States threatened to explode a missile packed with bloody pig parts over Mecca, thus gushing a deluge of this dreadful unholy rain over Islam's holiest city, maybe this kind of threat would be enough to deter a future terrorist attack on America.
But at the same time, to be fair, we should also announce to the world that we will STOP uncritically supporting Israel on every stupid travesty that they commit!

We need to take a much tougher stance on terrorism. Terrorists need to be killed. We don't need to try to understand their motives. They're dangerous murderers who have little if any capacity for rational thought, much less a sense of morals. The fact that some of them think they are doing God's work not only makes them all the more dangerous, it gives other weak-minded creeps like themselves a reason to kill. First of all, we and our allies should root out terrorists and kill them wherever we can find them. Second, we should take out any world leader who supports terrorists. If we do anything short of this, we'll be stuck with this menace for a long time to come.
