Anime comes from Japan. It's the Japanese cognate for animation. Anime is animated video, like cartooons. Unlike American cartoons, however, the Japanese consider anime a multi-generational medium, like live-action movies. You'll find anime for young children to mature audiences only and everywhere in between.

They are Asian television, mainly Japanese. A lot of their television is animated (what we call anime). Most anime series are based on manga, basically Asian based comic books.
