Depends what department you're aiming for. I was aiming for their film production program, but only made it into their Cinema Studies program. It's very competitive for their production program. However, I suggest that you build up a portfolio of work ASAP. That's what they're looking for. And you have to be well-rounded in all areas of filmmaking (screenwriting, editing, cinemtography, etc.) and I don't mean you have to be brilliant at all of these, but know the art. Know the skills. Know the roles of each.

Also, as someone said earlier, just be yourself. Show them what you have to offer.

But I will tell you this, be aware of ALL the background specs of USC (i.e. that they keep the rights to their student films, meaning, if you make a brilliant film while at USC worthy of putting it into Sundance/Cannes/etc to get a deal with a production company, good luck. USC maintains the rights to it.)

P.S. There are other good film programs out there, not just USC's. UCLA, NYU, Columbia, Emerson College, College of Santa Fe, Rochester Institute of Technology, Chapman University. Many many film programs.
