It sounds like your pets aren't fully socialized, and you're low person on the totem pole. Both cats and dogs are social creatures, and live in hierarchies. Any dog, for instance, will take the leadership (alpha) role in the absence of another leader. This means he expects to get his way in all things, and if you give him everything he wants when he wants it, you are affirming his belief in his top position. You didn't give any details, but I suspect that your dog isn't trained, and that because of his bad manners you have difficulty taking him out and about. Dogs that are left home all the time have no opportunity to socialize with other dogs and people, so they don't develop social skills (ie they're not "socialized"). Contrary to what some believe, a trained dog has more freedom than an untrained dog. So the answer is to take your dog to obedience class, and read some books about dog behaviour and training. Stanley Coren has written some good books on the subject, and has a TV program called, "Good Dog". The Monks of New Skete also have a number of books and videos available. You should be able to find these books in your local library.
As for antisocial cats, it's a matter of earning their trust. Bad experiences when they're young tend to make them fearful. Never try to trick a cat, they'll remember it forever. The good news is that, with patience, many unfriendly cats mellow as they age.

I'm not sure. Your going to have to try and work with them around people have them hold your babies or at least start out just petting them see if a few of your friends would be willing to help cuz your going to need them. Your dog you can take out for walks and try to socialize him. Your cat I really don't think your going to be able to "fix" cats don't adapt well once they have a learned behavior but that's ok just put her away when company comes. At my in-laws for x-mas thta's what they do with their big baby (black cat) he does NOT LIKE people. This also kind of depends on what kind of dog too the toy varities you could be screwed but medium size like cocker's or jack russells you have hope. Also you could call your local trainer, and just about every little town has one, and ask them for advice. Alot of dog kennels also give obedient classes they would have advice for you. Good luck and go ahead spoil your babies I spoil mine too but they love most people. Well not my big one he doesn't like guys but I saved him from an abusive home and that's why he doesn't like guys.

I don't think you can unspoil an animal. I spoil my Siamese cat to no end and I care less what anyone else thinks. I get unconditional love in return.

just gradually introduce them to different people and let them get used to those people and if you introduce them to enough people over a few months then they will probably start to be friendly to strangers. But I spoil my dog and I think its perfectly fine.
