Okay, I really like GD and so does my 3 year old son. The only way we could get him to get rid of his binky was to trade it for GD DVD. He can actually sing along with the CD/DVD's. I have also caught him trying to put on eyeliner and making black marks all over his face because he "wanted to be GD"..anyway..I love GD because of many different reasons: when I was younger and partied, I loved them for the sheer essence of rebellion and any band who had an album named Dookie was cool....now since American Idiot, I love the way they express their views and don't care what anyone else thinks..if they think something sucks, they are gonna put it out there...I usually tell people that they need to read the lyrics and they will see a whole new side (kind of :) ) of GD...They are just fun and honest and rebellious....everything I love.....

Green Day was great. And no Good Riddance isnt a good example of their early songs. They were a punk band that made it big. Then they went away for a while putting out minor albums. Then they come back with a new image and teens love them because they are retro and new at the same time. Yes they look like my chemical romance, but then so does every retarded sap who craves attention and didnt get hugged by mommy and daddy enough. Green Day used to be cool to a certain point. Today though, ugh...nothing is sadder to any punk/rock lover than having to sit through their new stuff. Punks now, i do mean real punks those who do not listen to my chemical romance, fall out boy, Taking back sunday and all that garbage do not listen to Green Day at all. Green day is pop rock has been for a long time, its just sad they had to sell out what little cred they had to become cool again

they are perhaps the most shallow and low talented band of all time.
They are the Ramones of today!
But as is typical with pop music, they have a sound that people identify with. Fortunately, in the long term? They will not prove to be "evergreens"(Bands with songs that have airplay for 30 or more years.)

Um, they're not emo.
Or depressing.
They actually make me feel happy.
(Er, compared to the other music I listen to.)
And, I like their old stuff better too. Sometimes.
But they're so popular cuz "Billie joe is lyk so hot."
So a bunch of their fanbase is teenies.

i think alot of it has to do with the way they changed their look and style of music, they used to be some sort of Proto-punk band, now they just want to look like My Chemical Romance instead of the gutterscum that they used to be.

they're a pretty good band, but a lot of their popularity probably comes from people (mostly teens!) who are trying to break away from the "normal" suburbia life and make a statement to get personal attention.

Because they actually play their own instruments, they don't lip sync, they made it on their own, didn't have to kiss anyone's a**, and actually aren't afraid to speak what's on their mind. Who on MTV is even close to those guys?
