They've been at war for thousands of years, why would anyone think peace is even a possibility?

I hate to say it, but Isreal should have never been allowed to become thier own country. After WWII, when the british walked away from colonizing the region, Isreal declared itself a sovereign nation and the US allowed it and supported them and gave them way too much technology since then. They are now a very powerful country and have the tech to bully around any country in the middle East. At this point, considering Isreal's *********, I think they should be left alone to combat the rest of the Muslim world. Everntually they will fall and there will be peace.

There cannot be peace without war. A very big one. I am not anti -Semetic, but I do not think that they should have got the support in 1948 and I think they are doing exactly the wrong thing now just as the US was wrong to attack Iraq and Afghanistan. They should reep what they sow and in this case they should be left alone to fight

hmmm....a difficult question....we have to consider the historical hatred between the Jews and Muslims first. This is the biggest obstacle of all. If this barrier can be broken, then peace is a possibility. Remember, before the state of Israel came into being in 1945(?) there was a country called Palestine which was already existing there. It is very difficult, at best, to justify evicting an established state in favor of a newborn state. After Israel won their war and right to exist, they should have been magnanimous in their victory, and allowed peaceful co-existence with their arab neighbors. Unfortunately, the most radical anti-Jewish groups and countries claim that there can only be peace with the ultimate destrcution of Israel. I am a Muslim, but I don't hate the Jews (which is contrary to what is being taught by the Quran). I am only expressing my opinion based on observation of events and not on political agendas and doctrines.

Two things would bring peace on a practical level. The first total destruction of either side, which is probably not going to happen and if continued to be attempted tremendous suffering will occur on magnitudes which are unconceivable. The price is just not worth it no matter how right they think their causes are.

The second thing that would bring peace is compromise. As for Israelis enemies they would have to first and foremost recognize the state of Israel which is silly because the already do by vowing to destroy it. Second they would have to cease all military action, including acts of terror within and aboard against Israelis.

As for Israel they would have to give till it hurts. They need to dismantle settlements, withdrawal from the majority occupied territories. Both sides could submit to the U.N. as drawing final borders. Any attacks after this point would be seen as illegitimate and would warrant the military intervention of the U.N.

Finally Israel will have to be willing to take a few lumps even if radical elements attack them, and they inevitably will. But for them to do this Lebanon, Syria, Iran, etc will have to show a sincere willingness to hunt down factions that try to do so from within their borders. Allowing an organization to operate without hindrance within government lands make that government an accessory and can legitimately can be seen as an act of war.

Those were the practical issues that can be worked through, however, ultimately what it will take is not seeing not another as Israeli or Palestinian, Jew or Muslim, from this nation or that, this religion or the other, but all as apart of humanity. We all are members of this world community. We all are trying to find truth in our own way. Recognize this and have tolerance for other belief systems. Religious and ethnic bigotry is ultimately responsible for all this suffering. All us need to examine ourselves daily and make sure our hearts are in the right place. Have we tapped into the universal divine truth, or are we operating solely form environmental influences & or weakness of personal moral character.

My sincere wish, from the bottom of the well that is my heart, is for peace. Peace be unto ALL the worlds people.

if we new the answers to that there would be no wars now
iran is next on the hit list and there talking about sanctsions on korea.
i say we send bush and howard and blair to the front lines and see how they like it.
nothing worse than having these guttless people running our countrys and sending our troops out to clean up there messes.
three bullets one for blair one for bush and one for guttless aussie howard the coward.
right between the eyes.
that would be a good start to peace

perosnally i do not belive it will ever happen, but i do like love of truths answer, one of the best writtne replies i have ever seen, but as long as you have perceived injustices on both sides and percieved issues with who's territory it is anyways, you never have peac, their will never be a any sort of long standing peace, and neiter side will accept any form of recognizeable compromise, all we can hope that it goes nucluear and draws in bigger neighboring countries into the fray as well as USA to maybe settle the issue once and for all.. but i doubt it
