Rocky 1. It's about a street thug that earned his living collecting
over due loans for mafiosi loan sharks from poor people who couldn't afford the outragous intrest rates. Although he was
sympathetic towards them, he still had a job to do. He hated it! He was an un-deciplined boxer who got a chance to fight the World's heavy weight champ. Thru hard work and numerous emotional obsticals, he preserveered. What was hyped as an exibition fight for the Champ, ended up as Rocky's improbable but glorious triumph. Rocky Balboa ended up with the World's
heavy weight belt.
In real life Silvester Stalone also defied the movie making
system. After his script was soundly rejected by all the
Holywood studios, he decided to produce the movie himself
with the help of friends and willing investors. The movie won
the Oscar for movie of the year! He was instrumental in telling
the industry that the independent producers were here to stay. I'm not sure if this all happened in '77 or '78. You can research that. I hope this helps you.

It sounds as though you mean a truly physical journey, but the only movies that I can think of - because no journey is purely physical - is A Walk to Remember and Brian's Song.

Raise the Red Lantern
It is an excellent movie. Look for it in the foreign film section. It is subtitled, but is excellent - and a great journey.
