The previous poster is right and wrong about that. Certain phones on the Verizon system will not let you use audios files as tones, etc. I had upgraded last year to the LG8100 and found out that if I recorded songs, sounds, etc. with their recorder it went into a "sound" folder and you could not set them as ringtones like I did on my LG7000. Because of this I sent the phone back. However, my new Razr V3M and my daughters Razr V3C (only about 3 months old) both will allow you to record different songs, sounds, etc. and set them as ringtones, caller ID's, etc. The LG8300 and LG8900 (also known as LG the V and just The V) will not let you do that. Older LG's such as the LG7000, 6100 & 6000, will let you set these as ringtones, caller ID's, etc.
It's the phone and how it was made by the manufacturer, not the network itself.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE VERIZON...Send the file via bluetooth to your phone which will place it into the Audio folder inside your phone. IF YOU HAVE VERIZON, you are SHOL (SH!T OUT OF LUCK), because they lock you from putting audio files into your audio folder so you have to pay for their ringtones...
