His name is Professor Severus Snape. However, you do have a point in that it sounds like "snake" and if you read Book 6, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, this may have some relevance depending on what we find out about Snape's true character. JK may have named him with something rhyming with snake because he's a "snake in the grass". I don't know for sure. Just speculating. We'll have to wait for book 7 to know for sure.

I think you mean Snape. His first name is Severus, because he is harsh and severe. I think his first name is after a former Roman emperor.
