Menstruation is the sloughing off of the uterine lining when there is no detection of an implanted fertilized embryo. Since a pregnant woman has a fetus in the womb which is attached to the uterine wall via the placenta, if a woman were to slough off the wall, it would abort the pregnancy. The wonderful world of hormones and chemical balance regulates and prevents this from happening prematurely.

Menstruation is the flushing mechanism of an egg that is not conceived by sperm. But with a pregnant woman, the egg has been conceived, and the fetus or baby has developed. In this stage the woman's body does not produce egg. So, the menstruation does not happen.

Normally a pregnant woman will not have a menstrual cycle for the remainder of the pregnancy. The reason for this is the pregnancy hormone that is released and is how you can also tell on a home pregnancy test if you are indeed pregnant. This hormone stops the cycle from occuring so you do not lose the baby. On occasion there are women who still have a cycle for a few months, this is dangerous and they have a much higher risk of losing the child then a normal pregnancy where there is no cycle.

The whole purpose of releasing eggs is to get pregnant. When the egg implants in the uterus, the fallopian tube is signaled(biologically) not to release any eggs, hence no menstruation.
Glitches in the matrix does occur however, and some women get their period (although it is usually not the same) months into their pregnancy. It is not as common as people say it is though.

Menstruation is when the uterus ejects the uterine wall and unfertilized egg. In pregnancy the egg remains attached to the wall so there is no menstruation.

Menstruation is the method of washing out the unfertilized egg from your uterus, so once you get pregnant there is no need to flush out the egg.
