I am looking for work, hopefully long term to hire, but if given a job that is only 3 months why should I interview?

Some jobs at temp agencies are "temp to perm". If that is what you want, then ask them for those jobs. Otherwise, you will get short term assignments.

They want you to interview because an opening COULD develop at the firm they want to send you to during the 3 month period. That way, the firm can tell if they like you or not BEFORE they commit to 3 months.

From someone who has "been there, done that".

When you're looking for work, 3 months is better than unemployment. I wouldn't leave a perm job for a 3mo contract though. Most jobs that i've had through temp agencies, were 3months temp to hire... so after a minimum of 3 months, the company can choose to hire you as a regular employee. That's pretty popular these days, since the company doesn't take the risk of hiring someone off the street that doesn't know anything, and having to pay unemployment when they don't work out.

Because that's what temp agencies do, place people in temporary jobs. Yes, you should interview and do your best. Here's why:

1. Many temp jobs go permanent. The employer just wants to see how you work first, and/or are waiting for budget approval.
2. The agency also wants to know how good you are before they send you out for their better positions.
3. It's still a paycheck while you look for permanent work.

No doubt the client would have requested an interview before they make a decision. Three months is still a long time as far as the client is concerned...they know you have the skills as the agency would have screened you - they probably want to make sure you are the right fir for their office culture

thats why they are called temp agencies. Employers are looking for someone to fill the gaps, not to hire permantly.
