One view of world peace that I have heard articulated is that it is not possible as long as there are people who do not desire it and wish to kill you. The logic follows that the only way to acheive world peace is to kill these people before they kill you, thus ridding the world of any violent elements. What do you think of this point of view?

As a follow-up, if you don't believe that this is the way to acheive world peace, then what is?

I just don't think that peace is possible, period. Killing all of the "violent" people isn't going to solve anything. There are ALWAYS going to be violent, hateful people. There always have been evil people since time began and there always will be until the world destroys itself. It's a sad fact that violence and hate is a part of human nature. It's always going to be around. With all due respect, people like John Lennon, who dreamed about a peaceful utopia, were well-intentioned, but were completely deluded and unrealistic. Peace is a great thing to dream about, but it's never gonna happen....as long as humans are...well....human.

Well permanent peace isnt possible short of completely eradicating all human life. There will always be things that one has that are desired by another and people that will use violent means to get what they want. Its human nature.
