In other words, how far does one have to go before you feel the need to protect your ego from harm?

I'm not sure how delicate it is, probably pretty fragile. I do know how large it is interestingly enough. Google asked me if I could move it out of the way of Asia, apparently it was blocking some satellite photographs. Still it deflates pretty easy, so I suppose it wouldn't take much to instill a need to protect my ego. The ego thing must be tied to our survival instinct, I wonder if we'll out grow the need for it? Thank you for the question.

Depends on the situation and the person who I'm dealing with. Some persons I feel more need to impress, others Not as much.

Anyone other then family can not bother my ego. And family will not do so , so it is safe.
