My daughter has her first case of poison oak/ivy. Because of her work, letting the area breathe is out of the question 12 hours a day. Does anyone know a quick fix for the itching? I know the rash must run its course, but maybe there is something that helps battle the itch.

All advice is appreciated!

I know this sounds harsh and it does burn but it will take the itch away almost instantly, Bleach. My husbands mother used to scratch his poison ivy and poison oak open and then rub bleach on it. At first I thought that was cruel, and I still do a little, although my kids have never had poison ivy, so I can't say what would be worse. But anyway after my husband told me this I started putting bleach on annoying bug bites, and it eliminates the itch immediately! Hope this helps, Good Luck and God Bless!

What works for you (or your daughter) depends on how allergic you are to poison ivy. Try a product called Tecnu. I have used it before on poison ivy and it worked great! Calamine lotion is an old standby and Benadryl will help relieve itching.

Those are the products I typically use.

BLEACH... This is my first year be bothered by this nasty stuff. First time I went to the Dr. to get a shot, didnt help. Next time I broke out I got online and searched for help. I read to put bleach on it.... IT WILL BURN!. I keep it on as long as I could stand it and then rinsed with cold water. It did blister my skin but it was better than dealing with the poison ivy.
I did also read that water from a swimming pool was also good. If she has time for a long swim.

Good luck to you guy,

Believe it or not, I had a friend whose mother still made homemade soap and it works wonders to relieve the itch and dry up the poison ivy / oak quicker than anything else I tried.

Zanfel, it costs $34 at Wal-Mart, but well worth the cost, I had a terrible outbreak last week, used this stuff and it was gone the next day.

Give her a bath with baking soda in it. That should give her some relief.
