sounds like you have a leak... possbily a very slow one, but yes a leak, and this is an environmental hazard.

Consider replacing it with a model that uses Puron.

Stop calling this service tech -- find a reputible AC service & repair firm and find out why you are losing refrigerant. Three pounds a year is EXCESSIVE loss.

PS. This is NOT an enviromental hazzard (boo-hoo). Puron, like any other chemical, is no more healthy than hair spray or any other compound released into the air.

you need to clean your a/c coil. you can do iy yourself with a bug sprayer and a/c coil cleaner from the hardware store. or you can get a service man to do it pretty cheap. once it is clean make sure it has a clean filter at least once a mounth.(more if you have alot of dust and/or furry pets) try that and you should be good to go. btw freon dosn't weakin over time. if your a/c unit was low ,you have a leak. good luck!

u have bigger problems if u fill it up every yr and the next day it cant keep up!!! could be many things.......

i assume u have a heat pump:

if the line set is to long or not large enough ( round) problem to cool will happen..........

could have a leak in line set or in compressor.......

compressor could be going bad............

ur auto reverse valve could be not working correct.........

email me after checking the distance from the compressor to the interior unit( air handler) and see if u can figure out the size of the copper tube ( line set)
