They are ignorant and are the people who are bringing the race down. They cannot see black people associated with anything positive except money and in some cases not even that. I have been branded "acting white" so many times. I have now brushed that off and said "I am acting lady like", and I will continue to be appropiate and change for the better, never for worse like they want me to. Just know this one thing...
The same people who say this admire you, they want to be like you, they wish to be like you. I have tried to come to a conclusion and you know what...I think it is just JEALOUSY. I take it you are real lady-like, low key, and do not make a fool of yourself like the stereotypical image...they do, the one's you are talking about, and they wish to be like you. This is the only answer I come up with. It is so bad and hurtful, huh? More than you think it would be. It affected me once to the point where I thought I would try to act more like the people that would say that to me [because not all blacks act like that] and you know what, I look back and I am fine how I am. Guys like how I act, more appreciation from authorities, and I am admired. DO NOT change because of what they say. They do it because of jealousy and ignorance.

It's all about stereotypes. I too have been branded as "acting white" and get odd looks/comments because I love rock, hate rap, have never been attracted to/dated a black guy, and most if not all of my friends are white.
I was never taught to look at race, and I was never taught that becuase I'm black I should act a certain way. That's how it should be. Unfortunately because of the media (as in typical rapper or typical black person in a movie or something) and possibly the fact that racists still exist, people will always have their assumptions on how every race should act.
It sucks and it gets annoying, but you just have to ignore the ignorant people out there and be who you are. Until people learn to look past stereotypes and get to know people for who they are, not what race they are, the stupid stereotypes will always exist.

You know that happens to me a lot. Just because I am black I am too act that way. I mean this is stupid. I go out with a white girl and everybody thinks I am crazy. I have white friends I have hipsanic friends I got asian friends. People look at me strange when I enter to an Express store, as if I don't belong there. I totally agree with you. Just stay who you are!

I agree. I've been branded as an "oreo" all my life because of the way I speak and because of the company I keep. I say be yourself and don't worry about what people think. There are so many things more important to worry about than skin color...

I totally agree with you, love. Just because you belong to a certain race or cultural group, you don't have to fit the stereotype. Just be yourself. I can really identify with your dilemma. As a gay guy, I'm supposed to buy ALL my clothes at A&F and/or wear nothing but Hollister. I'm also expected to run out and buy Justin Timberlake's new album the minute it comes out, and go to every circuit party that I can. It's all just bullshit. To hell with what everyone else says. I'm just gonna be me, and you just need to be you.

What I find weird is the oximoron "RAP MUSIC".
It's either RAP or MUSIC.... which are you listening to?
See Music... is a very specific thing...
It contains RHYTHM, Harmony and MELODY.
Rap lacks one those three criterion.
I don't deny it's an "artform"... it's just not music.
BTW... I feel the same about "GAY MARRIAGE"
"Jumbo Shrimp"
and "long Shorts".

maybe you should give rap another shot
you'll find that we(black people) are very quick to put down someone from our race.
If it's not your friends it's something else
best not to let people get to you.

Because they are ignorant,or in other words, the n-word and you should be proud that though you are black, you are not the n-word
But I disagree with you saying that black should not play a part in who you are.
