My daughter is 7.5 months and has been on solids since she was 5 months as directed by the health visitor. She used to have bowel movements once/twice a day but recently its been 6 times a day roughly, especially after meals. Is there something wrong or is it normal?

I THINK I remember when she was younger being told that the frequency of the bowels was not important, but it was the consistency - i.e. if its too runny etc (sorry TMI lol). For the record they arent extremely runny poos, they are just soft.

Any advice please? She doesnt have a temp and in all other respects she seems fine really although she isnt eating quite as much as she did (only a very slight change which I had attributed to her not liking the food itself).

The bm's are fine, normal at this point, but you need to look out for something else now. My daughter is going on 8 months, and last month she had a week long spell of severe diarrhea. As if this wasn't bad enough, because we were changing the diaper so frequently, she developed a diaper rash. Now, she hash the rash and is pooping all over 8 times a day, so her bum got badly infected. We immediately took her to the doctor and she forbid us using disposable diapers, switched us to cloth ones, gave us 2 creams and an antibiotic to clear the infection. So moral of the story, with one bad thing, follows another. Watch for a rash. Good Luck!

She sounds fine to me! I have had that problem off and on with my 7 month old and the doctor told us the same thing. Unless it is watery, the frequency really doesn't matter. Maybe she is taking in a bit more food than she needs and her body is just getting rid of the extra. I'm sure the pediatrician will tell you she is fine!

The consistency of the stool is very important. Per my sons pediatrician, as long as the stool is not runny or watery it is okay. BUT if it persists for 3 or more days to "bring him in". It is possible also that it is a dietary reason why her stool is this way, my solution would be to watch and note exactly what she eats and tell this to the doctor.

I totally understand you asking this question. I would think as long as they aren't very runny stools and there is no blood or anything else abnormal about it that she is fine. I would call the doctor just to make sure. From one mother to another if I couldn't make it to the doctor right away I would get on here and ask my question too. Don't let any one make you feel bad for wanting some guidance and reassurance.

It could possibly be the type of food you are giving. I find that anything containing the smallest amount of orange juice does that to my daughter. If she seem healthy enough, then it's fine, but speak to a health visitor if you are worried.
I also remember being told that freqency wasn't as important as consistancy. Just ride it out, it's probably just the way her body is digesting the food.
Good luck!

Maybe something that you are feeding her is making her have a lot of bowel movements. How were her bowels before you started solids? Have you been introducing one solid at a time and checking for reactions to each one?

shes fine but maybe she should be cut back a bit on the solids. If you are giving her fruits that would account for the stools being the way they are and in a little one like that you don't want them solid.

Babies won't starve themselves they are quite vocal when it comes to eating.

Stop right there!

If you have any concerns over the health of your child, you should consult a qualified medical practitioner or your local post-natal clinic.

Do not, for the sake of your child's health, take any advice from anyone on this website regarding treatments.

It sounds like she's fine, but if you're concerned try calling her pediatrician. It sounds like she's just "cleaning out". Maybe you've been feeding her extra fruits and veggies lately and that would do it. If she seems fine otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about it.
